I would look at possibly rebuilding the carb or at least a good cleaning.  It sounds like there may be some gunk in the jets. As for the missing component it might be the flasher as that sounds like the location to the right of the battery on a mounting tab. I do have the manual I'll have to dig it out.,,

First thing I would do is to determine the fuel pump is actually still operating. Sitting for so long the moisture inside the tank may have corroded the pumps internals, when you switch on your ignition , have someone lay near the tank to hear if the pump engages and makes a whirring sound untill it pressurizes the lines. If that is ok I would disconnect the fuel filter, air compressor to blow through the lines after removing the valve on the fuel rail and fit a new fuel filter, once it is done ensure that you have fuel pressure up to the valve {in fuel rail end} Test the fuel pump also by placing a catchment bucket under the fuel filter, remove it then turn on ignition to see if it pumps fuel. might pay to also pull out the plugs and wire brush the rust off them. hope this helps.

John Deere 265 starting problem

To start ensure that is not a carb problem, and that the engine is not chocking because of incorrect carburetor settings. The carb should also taken apart and cleaned.

Try also running the engine without fuel tank cap, if engine runs fine replace the tank cap.

if carburetor, fuel filter, tank and fuel lines are ok it may be a faulty fuel pump failing. To test the fuel pump, insert a pressure gauge tool like this in the lines out from fuel pump.

Regards.

The owner thinks he ran the car ut of fuel,it died suddenly while idling. Now with fuel in the tank and starting fluid sprayed into the intake it tries to run until the either runs out. If this is air in...

Sounds like he may have a fuel pump problem. Turn on the key and listen for the fuel pump 'buzz' for a few seconds. If it doesn't buzz or hum the fuel pump is more than likely bad.

I have a 97 ninja 900. It hasn't run in atleast a year. When I tried to get it started, it took a little effort to get it to fire up. Then it stalled, started, stalled, started. Now it won't even...

I would siphon the old fuel out and replace it; if you didn't add any fuel stabilizer when you last ran the bike, the fuel has probably gone stale. I use stabilizer in all of our lesser used 2 & 4 cycle fuel eaters. It really does seem to help since restarting (especially summertime gadgets, including one car) happens cleanly.

I had the same issue with mine, just recently purchased the bike, previous owner said it ran but has been in storage a year and a half. I filled the fuel filter and everything and it would **** down the fuel but never even attempted to fire. I came to find out that there are two lines that come off the tank, the one without the fuel filter has a vacuum on it. So what we did was pour a little fuel down that line to prime the engine because it dumps fuel straight between the carb and cylinder. Took about 3-4 attempts but it fired and ran, just had to set the idle from there. Hope that helps you.

run some seafoam through the tank to clean up a little of the crud thats bound to be in the lines and carbs, check all the fuel and brake lines, flush the brake fluid both front and rear, change the oil filter, air filter, and spark plugs. get a shop manual and go from there.

1998 Grand Prix ...Last week I got gas when running real low and was in a rush. In my haste I noticed when I was leaving the ground around the tanks was dug around there. a couple days later my car started...

If I'm understanding you correctly, you believe you got contaminated gas from a station where they had recent work done on their tanks. If that's so, Now that you've run most of the gas out I would start by changing the fuel filter then fill the tank with good gas (I might even go up on grade for this tank). Although it's unlikely you may have gotten a fair amount of dirt or water, you may want to try adding some dry gas in case there is still water in the bottom of your tank.
If the new filter seems to clear the problem but it come back after a short while you'll need to take the tank off and flush it. If you do it yourself don't dump the gas on the ground. If you have to flush your tank you'll need to flush the gas lines and replace the fuel filter again.

What happens when it runs out of gas

SHOOT STARTING FLUID IN TO THE THROTTLE BODY, NOT TOO MUCH,BECAUSE IT WILL BACK FIRE, UNTIL IT STAYS RUNNING, IF THIS DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, THEN FIND THE GAS TANK AND BANG IT WITH A RUBBER MALLET, NOT TO HARD, JUST ENOUGH TO SHAKE THE TANK.

actually it is a theft system problem. the car is acting as if it were stolen and was ran until it was out of gas. the system just needs to be cleared and the car will start right up.
