Question about 2007 Buell Firebolt XB9R

1 Answer

Belt vibration I've owned a few twins and they all vibrate but the Buell is the most vibratingest of all and I love it! First let me say what a great resource the forum is. I've spent hours reading up here and it's helped with a lot of questions. I still have one or two though so here goes with one of them: At around 80-90mph it has a vibration that modulates around 90 times a minute. 'Listening' to what the bike is saying I think it is the drive belt

And I'm guessing it's a harmonic with the engine because if I drop a gear it all changes. None of which is a problem to me if it's normal. I'm just concerned the belt might stretch under these conditions or may already be too loose. I can just turn the idler wheel against the belt but it's pretty stiff. What do you think? Anyone else noticed this?if it's an early belt en the tensioner/idler wheel is going turnable but it's hard...you're still ok. You should still have a few more miles in the belt. if it breaks, get the upgraded sprockets and belt.,,,

How to release harley handle vibration?

All v twins have an inherent low vibration. It's what makes them great. If you're asking how to minimize the vibration, aftermarket poly dampers are available to replace the mounts where the handlebar mounts to the tree. There's heavier, softer handlbar grips that make a huge difference, wearing gloves help. If excessive vibration is something that recently appeared you should check your front wheel balance, engine mounts, etc. A good front wheel inspection and balancing should help.

I have a 2000 buell lightning ,I love the bike but hand numbing vibrations make unbearable to ride distances, any ideas...

The reason that bar end weights are fitted to handlebars is to dampen vibrations. try and fit some heavier or lighter ones to dampen the vibes to your preference. Try the heavier ones first.

2000 buell lightning exsesive vibration

Um, It's a Harley Product. They all Vibrate ALOT. You could check all the mounts on the bike - between the cylinders under the gastank, on the front of the front cylinder and at the rear of the motor under the battery - look for broken bolts, loose bolts and worn rubber mounts.

Just had trans rebuilt in my 2000 dodge intrepid 3.2 now there is noise from front of engine by belt rattling ?

Sounds like it could be the belt tensioner. These tensioners wear out over time i've had to replace a few of them.

Hi i have bought a new Buell 2009 model bike from Harley Davidson in Queensland Australia, I have a really rough runing engin, i took the bike back to Harley Dealership and thay could not fix the problem...

I have had two Buell Ulysses from a Brisbane Harley Dealer and have put a total of 80 000km on the two of them. I can tell you that if you have an after-market exhaust installed (EG Jardine, etc) then surging and backfires are the name of the game. Power Commander and other replacement EFCs are not the answer either (because no proper solution was in place before they stopped Buell's production). I do run a Jardine on my current model and putting in the noise limiter has made for smoother running. Also...Buell's are subect to vibration in the bars. I installed anti-vibration weights in the bar-ends and voila'...no vibration...just great as I can now see my speedometer...LOL. I hope any of this is of some use to you. I LOVE my Buell. I've been riding over 50yrs, I've owned dozens of bikes, motorcycles are my daily ride and this is my favourite machine (followed close behind by my Hayabusa).

My '73 Norton 850 Commando handlebars vibrates at idle.

Hi pl427
I love these bikes. Vertical twins of this era vibrate, is just how it goes. Engine design was simple back then and no counter shafts are used, so there is a degree of vibration at low revs produced by 2 big bore pistons that will make the handle bars get a real bogey on at idle.  If the carbs are out of sync,or need a tune, then you may have a lazy clyinder at idle that is producing the vibration also. Not sure if your bike has them, but some have rubber bushes that mount the handlebars. These can get sloppy with age and may need to be replaced. Another trick if the vibration is anoying you is to mix some lead shot with silicon and fill the ends of the handle bars up to "weight" them and reduce the vibration.
click here to see one walking on its center stand. Notice the way everything is vibrating on this old girl.
regards robotek
