The only thing you can do is buy another sensor. They are less than $100 new. The speed sensor has had a few part revisions too.

I recently sold my wife's Buell Blast to a nice young girl who called to say the speedometer has stopped working.  I did the speedo diagnostic and get a 02set code which will clear if the reset is held in but comes back immediately when you let go of the reset.  I removed the speed sensor and cleaned it but it still doesn't work and I realized that while the odometer does display accurate numbers and toggles between odometer and trip readings the mileage does not advance when the bike is ridden.  Any imput you may give will be appreciated.  As an aside I have a 92 RS1200.  Parts are hard if not impossible to find. Last year my rear caliper died and after much research found a comparable replacement.  Anyone who needs help with pre-Harley Buells can write me at any time. The only thing you can do about the speed sensor is buy a new one.  I got one this year for my 03 Firebolt as it was bad too and my speedo and tach didn't work when I first bought the bike. ,,,

I cleaned the speed sensor on my 2001 super glide and my speed-o work off and on what is the fix

I do not understand what you are saying or asking.

When did the problem begin, before or after you cleaned the sensor. Why did you clean it. What was there that needed to be or was cleaned from the sensor?

If the sensor has no metal filings on it, it could have an intermittent defect. It is a hall-effect sensor. Most likely to be good or bad but ............

If the problem is intermittent it sounds more like a loose, corroded or etc connection or wire.

Please post a comment and advise if you need more information or what the answer was if you find it. Thanks

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you remove the positive battery connector, let it sit for atleast 5mins. then reconnect it again. The electrical system may have just tripped that's why it's not working. Reconnecting the positive battery connector may solve the issue.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Speedometer stop working. check engine light on. engine running rough. Also have clunking sound in the trany.

The speedometer not working and the check engine light on are probably cause by the same thing, the speed sensor is bad. The clunking in the tranny could be what cause the speed sensor to go bad.

I have a 2000 fxst--when i start the bike and rev it my mileage indicator will go out and the check engine indicator comes on. let it idle and everything is good. also speedo will come and go.

2 things, bad speedo or your speed sensor picked up some metal. Or both. The sensor is located on the right side on the trans.Pull one allen bolt and GENTLY pry the sensor out. Wipe off the metal shaving. The speed sensor is MAGNETICALLY triggered, so it picks up metal from the trans and shorts out. Possible bad wiring connection somewhere too.

Where is the speedometer sensor at exactly omn a gsx r 600 05 ??

it's located on the front sprocket cover held on by a 4mm allen key bolt. if yor sensor is good, there is a part called the speed rotor that could be bad. the speed rotor is the plate on top of the front sprocket that sends the signal to the speed sensor.
