I topped the oil up after checking the oil level with the bike OFF the main stand and being held upright by my mate (as advised by the bike shop). Upon next taking the bike out it would barely do 60MPH (there was no oil/smoke coming out of either exhaust can) so I turned round and headed home a round trip of about 15 miles. As I had only topped up the oil and the bike was running fine before this, I decided to drain the oil and put some new in (this time measuring the 3.4L) is says it holds on the side of the engine. Allowing for some oil always to remain in the sump I got 3.0L in (but about 6.0L out)!! Bike now runs fine. However, will I have damaged the engine in the process? I've checked the airbox but there's no oil in there (relief) and the spark plugs are not 'gummed' up. Thanks in anticipation.,i dont think so. im assuming your crankcase vent routes to your airbox, as with the bies ive seen. hopefully someone else will come along and verify or correct me.,,,

My oil gauge is going back and forth on my 1996 Ford F250, I have change the oil coolant sensor. When I drive a few miles the oil gauge goes crazy. Need help? I have change the oil sending unit also.

The oil temperature sensor could be in the oil level sender unit - it depends how many connecting wires there are. If it is in there it would not be as accurate as if it is placed in the main oil gallery, perhaps combined with the oil pressure sensor.

I advise you to re-read your vehicle handbook and ensure you know the exact functions of the instruments. Often the oil gauge is a level gauge only until the engine is started and then becomes an oil pressure gauge, therefore a fluctuating gauge might indicate a fluctuating oil pressure...

If that is so, worrying about it now could save worrying more expensively later.

Oil light flashing not running rough.

Oil light flashing is a sign of low oil pressure. Either you have an oil sending unit reading incorrectly, or you have an actual oil pressure issue. You need to get a mechanical gauge hooked to the engine and get an accurate reading. If you have good pressure with the mechanical gauge then all you need is a new sending unit. If you have low oil pressure with the gauge...the good new would be that you sending unit is fine. The bad news would be that your engine needs opened up, at the very least the pan needs to come off to see if the sump tube is blocked and not allowing oil to feed the pump. But could be as bad as worn bearings and the need for an overhaul or replacement engine.

How do i check oil on rieju marathon 450

Should be a dipstick up in front of the fuel
tank. These have oil in the frame and use
a dry sump oiling system. Run it for
a few minutes then check. Only holds about
1 litre of oil total so don't overfill.
It will only show oil on the dipstick after
running a bit as the oil needs to be pumped around
the system to be accurate on dipstick reading.

2010 FLHTK HARLEY-DAVIDSON I noticed the oil pressure dropped from around 32 to what appeared to be 16. Then it dropped almost to 0. I pulled over and let it cool down for 15 minutes and rode to my de

Hi Tonykoegel, if your oil pressure gauge is acting eratic or your oil pressure light stays on you could have a faulty sending unit, gauge or air in the system or a restricted oil filter, start by checking oil level in tank and make sure it is between the add and full mark. With engine at normal operating temperature 180-230 degrees and the use of a 10 micron synthetic media oil filter, oil pressure will be 30-38 psi at 2,000 RPM and 3-5 psi. at idle. The oil pressure light is designed to come on at 2 psi. or less. To accurately test oil pressure remove oil pressure sending unit and install known good oil pressure gauge that reads 0-50, there might possibly be some plumbing required for hard to access points. If you are out in the middle of nowhere and there is no cell phone service and your oil pressure gauge isn't working and your oil pressure light is burned out, despair not, you still have one last line of defense left HYDRAULIC LIFTERS, as long as those tireless workers are quiet, you have oil pressure, maybe not much, but enough to get you down the road at a slow to moderate speed using the least amount of RPMS as necessary. Good luck and have nice day.

I do not have the owner's manual and need to know how to fill the ATF resorvoir.

ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) is added to the transmission through the dipstick tube. First make sure that you are checking the fluid level correctly:

Start the engine and let the engine warm up for a minute or two.
Then pull the dipstick from the ATF dipstick tube and wipe it clean; reinsert it back into the tube, paying close attention that you are inserting it all the way down until the tube is sealed again.
Then remove the dipstick and check the level of fluid on the dipstick, with attention to the fluid level markings on the dipstick.
Do this several different times to make sure you are getting accurate readings, as some transmissions make it difficult to REMOVE fluid, in case of overfilling.
If you DO add any, add just a little at a time, and permit time for the fluid to settle, so you can get accurate readings of the dipstick fluid level.
Constantly recheck to make sure you do not overfill your transmission.

Hope this helps.

Oil pressure gauge not reading on my 1994 jeep wrangler. oil is full just the guage has no pressure and not alot of power

The oil pressure specification for your engine is 13 PSI at idle hot, 37 to 75 PSI at engine RPM higher than 1600. I suspect your oil pressure gauge sender unit or gauge is inaccurate. I would have a known accurate mechanical oil pressure gauge temporarily screwed into the present oil sender unit to verify actual pressure.

If you have the correct pressure I would replace the sending unit first.

Instrument gauges are reading not accurate. oil

This model always this problem, usually after about 90,000 miles and the other instruments will eventually follow. There are companies that will repair this for you just use google (instrumentclusters.com) to find them. I was charged 185.00 for the repair... GM wanted over 500.00!

How do you read the oil level correctly on dipstick to 1995 Saab 900S?

All dipsticks have an upper and lower mark ..the top mark is the full mark and the lower mark is the add oil mark. Check it with the engine off on level ground.  Also after the motor running at take a few minutes for the oil to return to the oil pan to get an accurate reading.
Do not overfill.
