Question about 2008 Benelli Caf? Nero 250

Transmission problem my problem is in my 2nd gear every time i rev over 6k with the clutch out my transmission drops into neutral without fail. it is a 93 benetli nero 250 miles on it. i am a noob with motorcycles and would like eny info. thanks crash ash

Sounds like the engagement dogs(not the teeth) have rounded off of second gear possibly combined with a bent/worn shift fork. Common problem on older Yammy trannys that have been shifted from first to second too hard too many times. The parts are not too expensive but the labor sure is.... the engine has to be split open to get at them.,,,

If it is hard to get to neutral meaning you feel undue resistance and it skips past neutral into 2nd gear, check your clutch adjustment. It sounds like the transmission parts that are supposed to be stationary when you pull in the clutch are still moving from clutch drag.

I have a 96 Suzuki Intruder 1400. The problem is that sometimes I cannot downshift from 2nd gear thru neutral to 1st. It hangs up before going thru neutral to 1st. I have bled the system and it seemed...


bike is 15yrs-ajust clutch 1st-if no relief then a bottom end will have to be done and u need a clymer manual and special tools--the book covers complete maintenance

Instructions

1.
The 2nd gear lockout is, a mechanical speed sensing mechanism. It doesn't care if the engine is running. You bypass it by scooting the bike forward, about 5-6 mph, while shifting the transmission into 2nd gear.

Stand on the left side of the bike, with the ignition "ON" and the transmission in neutral.
3 With your right foot on the ground, behind your left foot: place your left foot on the left foot peg, with your toe under the shifter; squeeze in the clutch.
*4.Scoot the bike forward about 5-6 mph, with your right foot, and shift the transmission into 2nd gear, with your left foot. If you accidentally go into 3rd, or some higher gear, you can easily shift back down into 2nd, without further movement of the bike.
5.To start the bike: Apply the choke if the engine is cold. Squeeze in the clutch and push the bike forward, both feet on the ground, about 8-12 mph. Release the clutch until the engine start

As soon as the engine starts: squeeze in the clutch and shift the bike into neutral.

Some times when i change down from 3rd into 2nd i hit netraul and from 2nd into 1st i get netraul only happens when engine is hot. xl1200r 2006 model


The transmission "neutral" position is located between 2nd and 1st gear. You say you're also getting a "false neutral" between 3rd and 2nd. Since you say you're finding both, it leads me to suspect that you are not being aggressive enough when shifting the gears. The Sportster has the best shifting transmission of all the Harley motorcycles. Since it does shift so easily, riders sometimes "soft shift" the transmission and wind up missing gearshifts. This is the most likely problem, rider error.

Now, there is the possibility that the clutch is dragging but that usually effects the transmission when upshifting, not so much downshifting. With the engine off and switch on, put the transmission in gear, hold the clutch lever in, press the starter button. If the bike tries to move forward, you need to adjust the clutch.

I bought a 2003 R6 from this guy who said the chain broke on him. The bike only in neutral and first gear. i cant hift up from one to two or neutral to two. Plus I dont the clutch is engaging at all. once...


personally I have never heard of a chain breaking and having any affect on the transmission and shifting. although if the chain broke and caught the shifter, it may have pulled the shifter so hard that it could have bent the shifting forks inside the transmission.. this would explain most of your problems..replace the chain,and with the bike "off" and in neutral, on level ground, rock it back and fourth about 6 inches and try shifting from neutral to 1st and then back up to neutral, and then to 2nd. keep rocking the bike back and fourth while doing this and do this WITHOUT using the clutch. If it wont go to the gears easily, the shift forks are likely bent. there is a safety switch for the kickstand that will shut the bike down if the kickstand is down and bike is in gear. if the kickstand is up and releasing the clutch shuts down the bike, the chain may have damaged that as well. My fzr 1000 is leaking gearbox fluid by the looks of it ,i start it up and when i put it in 1st gear it cuts out before i even let the clutch out. but if i put it in 2nd gear it doesnt cut out,, is this...


that's a bad neutral safety switch...it's a shop repair...now, the reason it goes bad:

the 1st gear is for getting the bike moving, period...you "never" wind out in 1st gear...ever...high rpm and going from 1st to 2nd is very bad for a transmission...think about how much movement is happening to go from the bottom, past neutral, to 2nd gear...that's where most trans damage occurs...once you start moving, go to 2nd, then rev it out... remember...1st gear is for getting moving only...

well this is something that is as you said " not normal" i would guess that clutch is smoked. after it warms up do a 3rd gear roll on at about 45 mph. if you drop the hammer and the motor revs and you don't go anywhere stop the ride and R&R your clutch
something else to make sure of is that you clutch fuild is good and has no air in the line

If your rear wheel is locked up in first and second gear with the engine running, this is not a good sign. Have you ever ran the bike without oil in the transmission? Every time I've seen this, the chain was thrown off the bike and it busted the cases. The oil leaked out of the cases and the transmission locks up. Generally, it locks in fifth gear but it could lock up in any or no gear.

Your problem sounds like something is wrong with the low gear-second gear "clutch gear". The clutch gear is gear that slides sideways on one of the transmission shafts to engage the proper gears. If the bike will roll when in neutral, these may be the only gears affected. If the bike will not roll when in neutral, your problem may be in countershaft. Either way, the transmission could be damaged.

Now, if you're talking about the rear wheel locking up if you try to push start the bike, this is because in low and second gear, there isn't enough mechanical advantage in the transmission to overcome the engine compression. Remember, you transferring torque through the transmission backwards when you try to push start the bike. Try starting the bike using third or fourth gear instead. Standing on the pegs and dropping onto the seat when you release the clutch helps.

just input , not resolving anything. but i used to have a similar issue with mine, but i had a gs 750t . it has around 20,000 on the clock. sometimes it didnt want to shift into 1st from a dead stop, i had to let out on clutch, then pull clutch again , then it went right in. the gears are so fine cut in the bikes that once they get worn, even the shift fork, it gets a little harder to get into those gears without a little coaxing. by the sounds of it (without knowing the mileage) i dont think id worry too much. especially if its shifting up and down through gears without grinding of any sort. if the clutch is ok on it (being an 03) i assume its still touchy , ull be ok
