Ok does a 2000 gsxr 750 have a petcock?

The last time I checked these were fuel injected so the petcock would be vacuum controlled. There are rebuild kits etc. Of course being built when it was I understand that the earlier models were made with carbs. The injection system looks a lot like carbs so to be sure I would call the local suzuki dealer, give the serial number off the bike to see that it does have fuel injection.

One clue; If it has a check engine or similar light on the instrument cluster then it is computer controlled and fuel injected.

The fuel is off until engine is running and vacuum opens the valve. I do not think you can or need to shut it off via a lever like the older bikes. I mention this because I get the feeling you are asking so as to remove the fuel tank?

Why is my if light staying on

FI , im guessing is going to stand for "fuel injection"

If the bike now sounds different it has probably got a problem with the fuel injection somewhere that the computer has picked up.

If the sound of the bike has changed it may have dropped 1 cylinder and that is why it sounds different all of a sudden.

It could be a simple blocked injector or water in the your fuel - a bad batch of fuel will play havoc with the fuel injection system on any vehicle.

When was the last time you bought fuel ? was this problem only after getting new fuel? when was the last time the bike was serviced?

id have the fuel system checked buy someone that knows what they are looking at.

If it has been sat for 2 years the fuel will have broken down so a full system flush with new clean fuel is a good 1st step.

If you have checked the carbs was there any sludge build up in the float chambers. If so I would dismantle and carefully clean with new fuel.

Make sure the tank is emptied and has not rusted. When you know you have clean new fuel. Try starting again.

When you get it running you need to use either a pair or easier 4 vacuum gauges to recalibrate the carbs.

This is fairly straightforward and a cheap set can be bought for as little as 8 pounds try Amazon. Obviously more expensive = better quality but if you are careful with them even a cheap set can be quite reliable.

Tip - Check each gauge against cylinder 1 for reading then you know if they are reading the same. Some are adjustable or just mark and set all to cylinder 1.

2.5 - 3.5 turns out sounds about right as a start point as you said.

Good luck

Exhaust install

Yeah, with fuel injection, you need to either take it to the dealership so they can plug in and reprogram the ECM, or get a "piggy-back" unit to adjust the mixture.
Some, like the Fuel Commander, have about 4 knobs that you need to adjust.
BUT, to do this right, you need some dyno time, though you can get close by ear/feel.

I prefer a unit like a Terry Components.
This one reads the O2 sensors, and self adjusts, even over time learning your riding style and adjusts accordingly.

Here's their website if you want to read up on them:

You'll want to look for the proper one under the METRIC selection.

Just a hint, they're about $450, but I picked up a brand new one on Ebay for $125.

When i turn the switch on my gas line leaks

This may be due to the fuel pump pressurizing the fuel system if your bike is fuel injected. I know nothing about fuel injection systems on Harley bikes. I do not work on them. I specialize in the Evolution and earlier model bike without fuel injection on them. However, I have worked on other typs of fuel injected vehicles in the past. Check with your local dealer and see IF there have been any recalls on this as I've seen many complaints about leaking fuel lines. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Just conked out and wont start i have a 2009 harley rocker and i just put new mufflers on it i rode it about 50 klicks and bam it conked out and now wont start all the fuel and oil is good and no fault...

I don't know a lot about the Twin Cam powered machines but if your bike is equipped with a carburetor, check the fuel petcock. In 1996 Harley went to a vacuum operated fuel petcock and they do give problems. You'll have plenty of fuel in your tank but not a drop in your float bowl. There is a diaphragm in the backside of the petcock that will get a hole in it and shut off the fuel or the vacuum hose might have come loose. If your bike is fuel injected, I'm afraid that I don't have any suggestions since I've never messed with fuel injected models.

After riding aboue 8 miles from a cold start my 2004 FLH begans to misfire at an engine speed of 2000 RPM. will not clear up until the bike has cooled off. and then it starts all over again. please help

If your bike is carburated, install a new set of spark plugs and don't use the enricher as much. Harley's enricher is very rich and will foul the plugs is left on too long during warm up of the engine. I use the enricher to start the cold engine but as soon as I can keep the engine running without the enricher, I turn it off.

If your bike is fuel injected, you'll have to take it to the dealer or a shop to check for any "codes" that may be on the computer and recalibrate the fuel map.

Good Luck
