I am a new motorcycle rider. I have a 600 Dirt Track Motard which shows an oil light and no pressure there is also a grinding noise. Recently I had to set it down in the street and the problem started after that. thanks for any suggestionsWell this one seems pretty straightforward. The oil light and lack of pressure mean that your oil pump has quit pumping (assuming that you've verified that there is oil in the crankcase). The grinding noise is common when running any internal combustion engine without oil pressure. That's the sound of the engine destroying itself.,,,

There's an o-ring between the inner primary and the crankcase, probably bad.

Oil light and oil pressure

Hi Antonio, start by checking oil level in tank and make sure it is between the add and full mark. With engine at normal operating temperature 180-230 degrees and the use of a 10 micron synthetic media oil filter, oil pressure will be 30-38 psi at 2,000 RPM and 3-5 psi. at idle. The oil pressure light is designed to come on at 2 psi. or less. To accurately test oil pressure remove oil pressure sending unit and install known good oil pressure gauge that reads 0-50, there might possibly be some plumbing required for hard to access points. If you are out in the middle of nowhere and there is no cell phone service and your oil pressure gauge isn't working and your oil pressure light is burned out, despair not, you still have one last line of defense left HYDRAULIC LIFTERS.as long as those tireless workers are quiet, you have oil pressure, maybe not much, but enough to get you down the road at a slow to moderate speed using the least amount of RPMS as nessary. Good luck

I have a 50cc 2002 yamaha zuma. Recently it has started to vibrate excessivly while it is driving. i am still getting top speed and have changed the gas and oil. It starts vibrating at about 20mph.

Hello, try checking the tyre pressures. A low pressure tyre will cause the bike to wobble, especially on the front. Another thing to check is the tyre itself, check for bumps and flat spots. All of these things can cause wobble. One more thing is the front forks, if the oil is low in them, that can also create problems. I hope that helps.

2006 Road king. Changed oil. After warm up the oil light comes on at idle. Goes out running down the road but comes back on at idle. What should oil pressure becold and hot ?

Hi Anonymous, if your oil pressure gauge is acting eratic or your oil pressure light stays on you could have a faulty sending unit, gauge or air in the system or a restricted oil filter, start by checking oil level in tank and make sure it is between the add and full mark. With engine at normal operating temperature 180-230 degrees and the use of a 10 micron synthetic media oil filter, oil pressure will be 30-38 psi at 2,000 RPM and 3-5 psi. at idle. Easiest or best way to add an oil pressure gauge to an 88 harley 883 sportster..

to add an oil pressure gauge, you'll need to put the pressure pickup tube at the same place where the oil pressure sending unit is now.

I've seen oil pressure gauges on Big Twins but I don't recall seeing one on a Sportster. I guess I ought to warn you that installing an oil pressure gauge on a Harley engine can cause you to have a heart attack. Why? Because when the engine is idling hot, it has very little oil pressure. The oil pressure sending unit is designed to turn the oil pressure light off at four, yes I said four pounds of oil pressure. The Harley engine is a high volume low pressure system. The reason for this is because it has roller bearings on the crankpin, not shell bearings like *** bikes. So, unless you get an extremely accurate gauge, when your bike is idling on a hot summer day, your gauge will read zero.

Besides, you have the best oil pressure gauge one could ask for in that engine. They're called hydraulic tappets. If you lose oil pressure, they'll let you know very quickly. They'll rattle so loudly that you'll be forced to turn the ignition off.

If your speedometer is showing a "Red Pot" that looks somewhat like a tea pot, This is you oil pressure warning light. Check your oil level and check the flow of the oil back to the oil tank.
