Question about 2003 ATK 260

Biek wont start just clicking?

I've had nothing but good luck with this bike since I got it but now I when I try to start it I am just getting a clicking sound back by the battery. I tightened up the wires in case it was a loose connection at the terminal and that didn't help. It looks like a solenoid back by the battery and that sounds like what is clicking when I try to start it. I haven't tried to jump the battery off another battery yet but like I said

I drive the bike every day or two and it always starts immediately. Does this sound like a starter or solenoid or something else? Well tried to jump start the bike and it wouldn't start just the same clicking sound. Also tried to jump over the solenoid with a screwdriver and nothing happened. Then I tried to push start the bike and again nothing. I can tell the battery is weak but even push starting, I should be able to start it without a battery right? ,,,

My GTR100 was running yesterday, changed a throttle cable, now when I press the start button all I get is a click and the lights dim. any ideas please

Sounds like either a flat battery ( check electrolyte levels and re-charge ) or a jammed starting motor.
If it is the starting motor then raise the rear wheel, put bike into first gear and with the ignition OFF try to rotate the wheel back or forwards. You can also do this with both wheels on the ground and rock the bike back and forwards , in first gear with the ignition OFF.
In future try to start the bike with the lights OFF as this reduces the power load on the battery.
Allways make sure the ignition is OFF when trying to free a jammed starter as there will be the chance of the bike starting and it will run away from you.

I have a 98 yzf1 bike was running been having issues wuth the fuse for the head light started bike today pulled down the drive way bike shut off turned the key off then back on n nothing no lights horn...

Hi, Sounds like you have a bad ignition switch. Also check alternator, so that battery is charging.
Do a test for me, start engine disconnect battery. If alternator is working you should have light and horn. Stop, engine reconnect battery. This will give you a better idea where the problem lies.
Good luck.

I have a 2003 DynaGlyde, Carbureted, security and a battery that holds charge. The bike sat for a year I went to pick it up got it home in the back of my truck threw my battery charger on it to 15 amps...

Man, that's the best description I've ever seen of a problem with a bike on this site. Regrettably, I don't have a clue as to what the problem is but I can tell you that I've read about the turn signal staying on in many instances. I'm an old school biker and mechanic and I don't have any experience with the computer controlled bikes or security systems. To me, it sounds like the security system has got the bike disabled for some reason. This seems to be the case mostly when the battery goes dead and then the owner recharges the battery or installs a new battery. The security disables the ignition system thinking someone is trying to steal the bike and it communicates with the owner or mechanic through the turn signal system. Have you read the owner's manual about the security system? The turn signal staying on constantly may be trying to tell you what the problem is. I really wish I could help more but that's all I've got.

Replaced battery, bike started fine. Let it sit overnight, won't start. Won't even crank, just clicks once then nothing, the Neutral light shuts off and the lights started flickering.

To begin with, I'd have that battery load tested to see if it's any good. I've seen brand new batteries that were bad. It it checks OK, check all the connections that go to the battery. Be especially attentive to the smaller wires that attach to it. I've seen battery acid eat the wire out of the insulation leaving the insulation intact and the wire appeared fine. If the wire bends too easily, be suspect. If the wires have the "crimp on" connectors, make sure they're tight. Your problem sounds like a bad connection somewhere.

Tried starting bike it clicked then went completly dead is it the battery,whn i turn on the switch nothing happens

A good possibility. Take the battery out of the bike and take it to an autoparts store. Ask them to load test the battery. They'll usually test it for no charge.

I have a 1990 harley fatboy.recently it has been slow to start,now its to the point that it barely turns over and ends with the clicking sound. after several attempts i noticed the battery was getting...

You have a shorted cell in the battery. Go buy a new battery. When you're trying to start the bike, it's doing so on 10 volts or less. When the voltage drops, the amperage goes sky high. That's why the battery, the cables, and the starter motor are heating up.

Bike won't start

Try rechargeing the battery, it sounds like it might take a charge but not hold it. The click is probably the solenoid trying to kick the starter in but not having enough juice to manage it.

If you can get the battery to take a charge and the bike starts, but the problem repeats itself, replace the battery. If you can't get the battery to take a charge at all, replace it or have it tested at your local service station.

Good luck.

Won't start

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, let me run a couple of ideas you may want to try, check, explore or consider based on most bike designs:
  • new battery - does the neutral and/or oil light lit up when key switched to ON;
  • if no, main fuse blown normally 30 Amps, loose battery cable;
  • if yes, is there an audible click when START button press;
  • if no click sound, starter relay faulty;
  • if there is clicking sound, check with voltmeter if +12 is present at big wire going to starter motor while START is pressed;
  • if none, starter relay faulty;
  • if yes, starter motor faulty (stuck up, probably carbon brushes);
  • is Engine RUN switch ON;
  • try with clutch in;
  • exercise side stand;
  • does the bike have an alarm/security/immobilizer.
Pls get back results.

A favor, I would rather that you please do not rate this solution (yet). Due to my current rank and standing, even a Helpful would be detrimental to my rating.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
