I am the proud new 2nd owner of a red 2000 Mille. Love the bike always wanted one deal of a lifetime came up so I bought it. The bike has 18,000 miles on it. I checked the wiring from the stator/alternator and it has been upgraded to 12 gauge wire from the stator to the voltage regulator. BUT, the wiring mod had not been done, so I thought, great!, I'll do the mod myself. Went home last night and ran 2 12 gauge wires from the red black wires at the connector to the 30 amp fuse. I didn't cut the old wires, just spliced two new ones in, as per bossbobs directions. Then I ran 2 12 gauge wires from the red blue wires at the connector to the battery negative. Turned on the bike, and I had 14.54 volts at the battery...WOO HOO!! couldn't check the 4k rpm voltage as it was late and the bike is loud. Went for a ride this morning, checked the voltage before the ride and it was 14.5 at idle and 14 at 4k rpm. NICE! went for a 15 minute ride and checked the voltage when I got home.... 12.5 at idle and 12.1 at 4k rpm....DAMN IT!! I take it this is a heat issue. The regulator gets hot to the touch, but not so hot that you can't touch it...yellow wires from the stator aren't warm at all... before the wiring mod, I had approximately 13.2 at idle and 12.5 at 4k rpm.... tired voltage regulator I hope????, cause I want to get bikepainter's upgraded aftermarket regulator.... Could everyone give me your input please??? not a very good pic of the new beasty,If you are using the on board indicator it's not very acurate. Also these bikes are know for big variations in voltage at anytime. I was told this by David at Acumen in the UK. I check this myself vs the voltage changes on a 2000 Grand Prix. I hooked the acumen voltage reader to the Prix and it stayed at 14.4-14.2, at idle and higher rpms. On the Futura I've seen readings from 17 volts to 12 volts. If you aren't having any electrical or starting problems, don't sweat it. ,,,

Yamaha xj600 84 mod has spark and fuel but will only turn over and will not fire

Remove the spark plug and flush out the excessive OVERFLOW OF FUEL as the engine failed to start. Unless this is flushed out the overflow of fuel with the dampness will not fire the cylinder.
Also check on the spark intensity with the plug as it must be good.
If not check the HT coils and the HT wires, check the incicent voltage on the HT coils for the coil trigger which must be fluctuating 12 volts.
This must start the engine if the timing is correct.

Just about to buy a 82 650 maxim, what should I check before handing over the pennies?

The condition of the of the drive line does the rear axle have excessive play? Are the tires in good condition? Check the clutch function, run it until it is hot and see if you have any slippage. Next ask for service records, was the oil changed every 3.000 miles minimum? Is the battery new and does the charging system work properly? Ask if any mods have been done to the bike, stay away from bikes that have been tampered with, it usually makes them run worse unless the owner really knows what he is doing. Does it start easily cold? These checks and questions should reveal the bike as a good or bad investment.

I have been having a problem with my charging system on my 08 1125r buell. My battery light comes on while riding and the voltage system comeson my instrument cluster.

Go to your dealer and have the official Buell wiring harness mod fitted. Normally this will be under warran. The other possible problem could be your alternator. The dealer will be able to determine which is which.

Please help I have a 1980's model susuki dr 250 the ignition spark got steadily worse until it now has none.I have checked the ht coil, pulse pick up coil, earthing wires, cut off switchand had the stator...

I have a 83 DR 250 and i'm not getting enough voltage to create a spark, all I can suggest is that you check your battery and make sure its at full flavour. Check and see if you are getting any voltage prior to the ignition coil (should be 18-35v). If you suspect battery then try clutching it as the alternator moving faster might give you enough to get her going. Also check all your connections and earths. Earth wires are often overlooked and can cause you just as many problems as the actives. So give that a go and get back to me mate. Cheers

Yamaha FZR 600 not charging correctly with the lights on

I HAD THE SAME ISSUE. CHECK YOUR VOLTAGE OFF O THE MAGNETO, IT SHOULD BE IN THE 25V RANGE. IF THAT CHECKS OUT OK CK THE VOLTAGE IMEDIATLY AFTER THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR, I BET IT IS BELOW 14V. THE FZR IS PRONE TO HAVING THE REGULATOR GO BAD (THE OLDER ONES HAVE NO COOLING FINS AND THEY BURN THEMSELVES UP). THE BEST ONE TO BUY IS THE NEWER VERSION FROM A 1999 FZR, IT HAS COOLING FINS WHICH GREATLY PROLONGS THE LIFE. YOU HAVE TO DO SOME SLIGHT WIRING MODS, BUT NOTHING ANYONE COULDN'T DO. SEARCH FOR FZR REGULATOR UPGRADE AND IT WILL EXPLAIN EVERYTHING! I HOPE THIS HELPS! GOOD LUCK!

Running issue

Hmm, if it only runs on choke and you have done all of those modifications I would think the re-jetting time is now. How did the bike run before all of the modifications? That is the magical question. If it ran fine before the mods, it's time to re-jet. If it ran bad before the mods. I would undo the mods, get your carbs running correctly and then reinstall the mods again. So I guess you have two choices.
