Question about 2004 Aprilia Mojito Custom 150

Coil Got a feeling i'm about to have the dreaded coil failure at my mojito. EFI light started intermittently flashing today. I didn't have time to check if it's a coil problem or not (don't really know how to do it)

But after doing some searches it seems very possible. I've searched through about replacement the OEM cost seems extortionate something i can't afford at the moment. There are Renault pencil coils on eBay - how do i know if they are the ones that will fit? They are only £14.50. Are the modifications very complicated? I'm not very technical. I have just installed a comms system, would this have any effect on coils or cause a failure? ,You really should find out if it is the coil before you spends yer hard earned on stuff you might not need??? Plug together the diag connectors read the code on the dash see if it is a coil fault or not ? It might just be a wire if it is a coil problem , ive seen this happen a few times! If this is the case it wont cost you a sausage! best of luck buddy! ,,,

DTC - Diagnostic Trouble Codes
ECM - Electronic Control Module. (The Computer) Computes the spark advance for proper ignition timing and fuel control based on sensor inputs
(from CKP, MAP & TP sensors) and controls the low-voltage circuits for the ignition coils and injectors.
The dwell time for the ignition coil is also calculated in the microprocessor and is dependent upon battery voltage. The programmed dwell feature gives adequate spark at all speeds.
ECT - Engine Coolant Temperature. Sensor also controls the cooling fan relay that provides 12 Vdc to the fans.
EFI - Electronic Fuel Injection
EFP - Electronic Fuel Pump
ET - Engine Temperature sensor
FI - Fuel Injectors
FPR - Fuel Pressure regulator

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AT START UP AND IDLE. NO ROUGH IDLE NO SYMPTOMS?????


Have you pulled the error codes?

1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.
2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.
3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting sould illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate. The word "diag" should then appear.
4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" with the first P flashing.
5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted])
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer
6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC's the code will be displayed or the word "none" will appear if there are no DTC's. Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.
7 - Record the codes.
8 - If DTC's are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up. Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC's again by repeating steps 1 to 9. If the code is current it will reappear.
9 - Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.
10 - Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

Pull any speedometer error codes:

1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.
2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.

Hi Anonymous, if your bike has been idle for months or years and does not want to start you will have to deal with a few remedies:
1. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
2. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
3. Remove carburetor disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
4. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
5. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

I turned the ignition switch on and the check engine light came on like normal but didnt go out. I started the engine after several attempts and the throttle wouldnt respond(throttle by wire). after...

2009 ultra classic / check engine lite stays on / cruise won't set / oil pressure gauge is low at idle but goes over 32 when rev'ed. 12100 miles. killed once and Black smoke seemed to come from air...

which gave me the following faul codes P0353 Ign coil 3 malfunction and P1357 Ign coil 3 Short circuit to vbatt/over temp I then started up the bike and the EFI light was flashing again. On checking the sensors page of Tuneboy it showed coils 12 & 4 with a dwell reading of 2.1-- whilst idleing but coil three would sit around 2.1 but would then drop right down to 0.4 for a few seconds before coming back up to 2.1ish. So the questions are, what does short circuit to vbatt/over temp mean? I assume that the fault codes and EFI light flashing are connected with the fluctuation of the dwell reading on coil three? Does this mean that coil three is on its way out and that I should order a new one? I should add that the bike is running fine. My main concern is that in two weeks time I'm taking the bike to France for 2 weeks / 2000+ miles and don't want to have coil problems whilst away. On a different subject (although still electrical) can anyone tell me the colours of the tacho feed wire, I have studied the diagram from the Caporider site and in my handbook but still can't find them,I had two coil failures. Both of them exhibited extreme dwell variance.,,,
