Reducing the idle trim number will weaken the mixture. But this is not an absolute number - i.e. the value that gives you the correct setting is dependent on lots of factors (e.g. the map the bypass screw settings...) The process for setting the idle mix decribed on the Tuneboy site works really well. Its easy to tell when its too rich or too lean - the bike is hard to ride! BTW I've had mine set anywhere between 6 and 22 for different maps. I have tried negative numbers (-2 or -3) but this was too weak - but his may not be the same for you ,

Idle low stalls stopped

This is usually a fuel problem. The bike is running either too lean or too rich. Check your spark plugs -- if there's black carbon on the tips, the fuel/air mixture is too rich and needs to be leaned out. If they're white, it's running too lean. If they're tan, there's some other issue. Clean or replace the air filters and check your inline fuel filter (if you have one) to make sure there are not clogs or obstructions.

Aprilia mojito back fire on cold start

Hi Anonymous, if your bike has been idle for months or years and does not want to start you will have to deal with a few remedies:
1. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
2. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
3. Remove carburetor disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
4. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
5. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

My yfz 450 yamaha 4 wheeler runs great in 1/2 choke, but when i put it down to idle it starts to miss and dies, I have replaced all of the carb and I am getting ready to asemble everything, the one thing I...

start about 2 turns out.
while idling when you screw it in a bout half a turn the bike will begin to bog down (rich)
as you screw it out the revs will increase and become uneven(lean)
pick a point between the two where the idle is smoothest.
this setting can change with different engine tempuratures, and altitude

My 87 yz 125 keeps fouling plugs can anyone help? It runs fine on a four stroke plug but is down on power as you can imagine but will also burn out my piston with long use mates have told me float levels...

Keep the correct plug in it.
If the plug looks black, it's due to too much fuel. You need to go smaller on your jetting. (You need to buy these at a dealer)
Your pilot jet will have a number on it. Get the number off of it and try a smaller step smaller. This effects your jetting from idle to 1/4 throttle.
The needle has a clip on it so you can raise the needle (lower the clip) up or down to effect your jetting 1/4 to 3/4 throttle.
The main jet also has a number on it, and this effects your jetting from 1/2 to full throttle.
Do your jetting by plug color. You don't want white (Lean) or black (Rich) You want chocolate brown.
Keep in mind that crank seals can screw up your mixture, as well as worn out rings, dirty air filter, or poor spark.

Carborator adjusting

If the bike starts good, idles good and runs good don't fix it. Wait until there is a definite problem that needs attention. If all is well then the fuel/ air mix, float level, etc., are set as they should be. Please don't be upset with me. I just don't want you to tinker with the carb until it is broken. Problems will come soon enough. Enjoy your bike and fix it when it is actually broken.

Have changed the exhust to a short pipe and i know that the bike will hacve to be retuned witha after market air filter , but have been told that the KAWA'S NEED A POWER COMANDER to remap the fuel...

If you want the bike to run at top condition YES it is the only way with out putting on even more expensive fuel injectors. Power commanders are made for all bikes, anyone that ever changes there pipes from stock to any aftermarket pipe should buy a power commander and retune bike, plusyou will get all the advertised horsepower from the pipes and increase fuel performance from it. Power commanders are fairly cheap compared toooo you burning out fuel system because it runs to rich or clog it by runig to lean....go with power commander and in about 4 hours it will run great ( thats install and retune time)

Tuning curbs

so I think I could guess my way through it mechanicly but how do I know where to stop. My eikon 150 running rich currently (black dirty spark plugs) and I would like to lean it out properly but I'd much rather have a too rich bike fouling spark plugs than a too lean bike fouling engines. So how do I adjust it properly and how do I know when it's right? Hey Kit. Are the plugs oily, or are you getting white smoke out the pipes? Well, you may already know these symptoms might indicate another issue besides fuel mix. \Anyway, rich mixes don't make much power. You'll be surprised how quick your bike is when you get the mix leaned out a bit. First of all, I'd make sure the float levels are set correctly and that the float valves are indeed seating. If they don't close off the fuel flow tightly you'll get raw fuel dumping into the carb bores... not good. Also make sure the air filter is clean and there is absolutely no obstruction to air flow. If there are problems with either of these, nothing else you do will matter much. BTW,you'll know you're there when you get a tan or light brown color on your plugs.,,,
