Charging problems

Have had problems with the battery the last couple of weeks. Bought a battery tender and started hooking the bike up to it. Two weeks ago we went for a spin

    2006 Hayabusa electrical system won't come on. Started and ran great 1 month ago and I Parked it back inside. Last week I turned on key and no dash lights. I bought a new battery and hooked it up but the electrical system still won't come on. Thanks for help

Stopped for lunch back on bike it started fine. About 20km later I heard the engine revs on my speakers running autocom of the bike the speedometer started going mad jumping from 30km/h to 220km/m, all over the place. The last time this happened was in France and the bike did not start again, battery was flat, bike shipped back to Ireland. Back in Ireland the dealer kept it for few days, battery was fine just needed to be charged, could find no other problem with the bike. While this time I rode straight to the dealer, about 20km away. When I stopped the bike was dead, no power. They did a test and said the regulator is faulty. Was waiting for new one from Aprilia but it did not arrive today so they took one from a new bike. The bike is charging when reved but does not want to charge at idle so they need to go fishing for the fault. It now also seem my clocks are broken as a result of al of this. ,Check to make sure that all of the chassis grounds are free of corrosion and properly connected. I have never had an issue with charging at temperatures ranging from below zero into the mid/high thirties (Celcius). Even at low speed you will be turning 3000-4000 RPM which should have the charging voltage between 14-14.5 V. Put a multi meter on it and see what voltages you are getting at different RPM's,,,

How can i jump start my vmax ? i cant seem to get the seat out!


taking the seat of a vmax is really easy. open the seat like your gonna full the gas tank, on both sides is a plastic piece coming from the seat. on nut on each side comes out and the seat lifts back and up. if your talking about just starting with a battery cable you can just reach the battery cables with the seat off. if your talking about jump starting by forward motioin and using the clutch its best to find a hill and get it going and put the bike in 2nd gear and let the clutch out. WARNING. If the bike don`t start you probably won`t be able to push it up hills, it weighs 650 lbs. but you can not jump start the bike without taking off the seat. suggestion, buy a battery tender terminal hookup for $5 and screw the two wires onto your batter and let if hang out the side of the seat, it has a cap over to keep it dry in the rain and if you buy a battery tender you will be able to jump the bike or charge the battery without taking of the seat every time. the battery tender cost from $20 to $40 it s worth the money. if your not going to ride you bike in the winter hook up the battery tender and leave the battery out of the bike for the winter in a garage or basement hooked to the battery tender. cost pennys a month and save the battery life.

Battery tenders eventually kill batteries, regardless of type. When your bike is idle for a week or longer, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Use your tender for maybe a week before putting unit back in service.

Where is the battery location for my 2007 vstar 1100. and how often do i need to charge it.


Battery is under the seat. Buy a battery tender and keep it hooked up when not riding in the winter. If you are in an area of the country where you can ride year round then a battery tender is not necessary. Battery will probably last 3+ years if properly maintained. I owned a 2000 V-Star 1100 Classic and it was a fine bike.

Leaking battery


Yuasa batteries are expensive but with good reason. They are extremely high quality and follow the old adage 'you get what you pay for'.
Cheap batteries appear initial good 'value' but the extra investment will pay dividends long-term, if properly maintained, your Yuasa will last many years.

If you suspect the liquid is acid, neutralize it with some baking soda just to be sure. You don't want that dripping onto anything metal or pain, causing damage.
Once you have it neutralized, wash it out with water.

It sounds like you ride infrequently and bike may have periods of serveral weeks on occasion without being ridden.

My recommendation would be to install a quality replacement (like the OEM Yuasa) then purchase a battery maintainer that you can plug in while bike is not being used. Good maintainers are Optimate and Battery Tender. (I have both myself - I really like the Optimate 4.) Both of these come with a waterproof 'pigtail' harness that you can permanently connect to the battery - then when you put the bike away, you can simply connect up to it without having to remove anything.

they make a charger called a battery tender which keeps your battery topped at all times with a trickle charge. get one and your batteries won;t die.

you need to get a battery tender, and when you put your new battery in it has connections that will stay on your battery and you just plug it in after you are done riding and cleaning her. oh one more thing when you get a new battery you need to charge it for 8 to 12 hours before using it, they are not like a car battery buy it, put it in, and go, you have to charge them up first. The tender should keep you battery charge all winter long. I hope this helps you. One more thing, 749's do not like weak batteries as you have found out. Buy a new one, install a tender and and use it, the battery will last much longer.

what else could it be? I'm with stupida dead battery WILL NOT be recognized by a battery tender thats why the light wont come on. Are you trying to jump the bike using a car that is TURNED OFF? You can hook the 2 batteries together and that will help equalize your bike battery enough that the battery tender will recognize that you are indeed connecting it to a battery or you can buy a battery charger and charge it for 20 minutes (or barrow one) which will be more than enough for the battery tender to recognzie the battery. *edit I should mention that the reason a battery tender wont recognize a dead battery is it must see (feel) electricity from the battery. I dont know all the exact properties as in what votage it must see but if it doesnt see it it thinks its not a battery. A charger will try and charge it no matter what it may be. I mean you connect a charger to a metal bar and it will try to charge it. oh if you hook the two batteries together im not sure the bike will start though it may. I have never tried it with a bike but at work we connect two forklift batteries together for 30 minutes and that gives it enough of a charge for our battery tenders to recognize that its charging a battery.,
