Front wheel question

Does the AE have one or two spacers on the front wheel Was kind of in a hurry taking front wheel off this afternoon for a tire change and went to the bike shop where they pointed there was only one spacer in the front wheel? Thought it may have dropped off on the way to the shop or the front axle acts as the other spacer on wheel. I know this is a pretty dumb question but my shop manual hasnt arrived yet

My 2002 and 2003 both only had one. While sitting on the bike the spacer is installed on the right side of the front wheel. The spacer goes on the side where the axle nut installs

How do I remove the front tire on a 98 Flstf

Get front wheel off the ground.
Undo axle nut (left side). If needed, put a punch through hole in end of right axle end to hold from turning.
Loosen 2 nuts on bottom of fork clamp (left side).
Pull out axle from right side, PAYING ATTENTION WHICH AXLE SPACER GOES ON WHICH SIDE, AND IT'S ORIENTATION, IF IT IS STEPPED!!!!

Tire/wheel will fall out at this point, so HOLD ON TO IT!

What are the largest tires (width) that I can put on my 03 FXST (both rear and front) without doing any modifications. Thanks!

Hi.

Standard tires are already oversized in 03 model. This are the maximum standard allowed, probably the same as what you already have:
Front - D402F MH90-21 54H
Rear - D401 150/80B16 71H
(front: 80/90 - rear :150/80-it was 130 in 02 model)

Without modification you cannot use any bigger tire. By changing wheel, belt and pulley, you can mount at rear up to 200 at rear (see job done on the 06 softail here).

At front you need to replace wheel and to move the fender. The result is not always great when you do modification to front wheel. The best thing to do is buying a spacer kit.

Regards

Ginko.

What is the procedure I need to follow to remove front wheel to replace front tire on my 2001 ZX-9R Ninja motorcycle ?

you need to raise front wheel from ground with hoist or stand
remove brake calliper bolts and then twist callipers on disc to push pads back so that you can remove callipers.
loosen pinch bolts on one fork leg then undo axle nut ( large allan bolt) loosen other pinch bolts on other leg and remove axle and spacers/speedo drive and the wheel. take note where spacers go and also make sure to line up speedo drive tangs correctly when refitting wheel in reverse order to taking apart.

Hello my dad has a 1100 sporster any way we took the front tire off and we should of marked how every thang goes back togeather we cant get the tire back on right anyone have any answers what side the...

If you have no idea where the spacers went ,then try them on any way ,You will know if they are in the right position as the disc break will only line up one way .and when you spin the wheel it should run fairly free .If it binds then its not right .

Rear wheel assembly for flstc 1994 rear wheel is not centring, too far over to the left, drive belt is rubbing on wheel

Unless someone has changed a spacer or something , the rear wheel should be centered with the frame, not necessarily the swingarm. The rear brake caliper bracket acts as the spacer on the right side and there is a spacer on the left side. This spacer on the left side should be just short enough to get into the swingarm without a lot of excess space once installed. You should not be squeezing your swingarm more than 0.125 inch or so.

Now, there are other things that will cause the tire to rub the final drive belt. Too wide tire will do this. The '94 models used the old style wide belts unlike the narrower belt used by the later models. If you install a like is on a later model, it's too wide and will probably rub. The next reason for tire belt interference is the rear tire not being adjusted correctly and it is not under the bike straight. Adjust the rear wheel by measuring the length of the adjuster bolt relative to the axle. These measurements should be the same on both sides of the swingarm. If you can't do that, find something about six feet long that you can use as a straight edge to check the alignment of the rear wheel to the front wheel. Keep in mind that there is an offset designed into the front wheel. Just make sure that the rear wheel is as straight relative to the frame as you can get it.

Even with all this stuff correctly set, the final drive belt will be close to the side of the tire but it should not rub.
