SC250ie speedometer trouble

I got aSC250ie the first of August. At 1050 miles the speedo started drooping momentarily. The first couple of times it happened while I was going 50 to 60 in clear weather. thought it was a bad speed sensor. Got some experience with hall effect sensors that can miss pulses if the air gap is set wrong

And the like. BUT... Today leaving work the speedometer moved on its own sitting still with the engine at idle. It went as high as 70! doubt that's a speed nsor since there should be a frequency signal of zero. I plan to fix it myself since taking it to the dealer is a 12 hour proposition, 3 hours each way x two trips. Maybe they'll work with me on warrantying the parts anyway. Any experience with this kind of issue? I am thinking the instrument panel is bad. The speed sensor feeds directly into the IP. Open to suggestions if any good ones come my way. Other than this the scoot has run just fine.,I think you should check your connections between the speed sensor and the speedo as well as your grounds. the speedo is just a small motor w a stick on it. when you reattach the battery it does a self test from 0 to as high as it goes. so your intermittent speedo problems are imho probably caused by some kind of electrical interference. the shop manual is on this site for free download, do a search and you will find it. I would also guess that perhaps u have a wire that rubbed through the insulation somewhere. good luck!,,,

Probably the speed sensor @ transmission (especially since your trouble began with speedo. Is your check/service engine light on? If yes have you had the codes 'read'?

Speedo starts off fine for a couple of miles and then moves round the clock to max speed slowly. Next time out same beginning but it sticks at 65! Any idea? Chris

Thsi is likely a problem inside the speedometer guage internally with the driven gears. They use drive motors to drive the needles inside. If it is pretty continuous then the speedometer is in trouble and will require a speedometer specialist to rebuild the unit or replacement of the unit.

Speedometer stopped working on 2001 Victory Motorcycle

Check if it uses cable or if it electronic.
If it uses cable the lower end is attached on the front wheel axle.Maybe you have to buy a new cable.
If it is electronic usually it senses the pulse from the gearbox (the sensor is towards the swingarm).

1989 Honda Accord speedometer not working. What is a speedo head?

The speedo head or cluster is the part that houses the speedometer and tach, etc. now it may be the speedo cable that comes from the transmission to the speedo head that has broken. If so replace the cable and your back in business. If it is the head you can get them from your local recycle yard.

Speedometer stops working

The speedo is electronic, this is for sure a speedo issue, either have it repaired by an authorized GM electronics repair center or replace it.

Speedometer problem

Speed sensor is what it sounds like.  Could be as easy as taking it out and cleaning it off.  Could be a bad sensor itself or could be the worst thing and it be in the cluster.  At least that will get you started that happens all the time on the Harleys and most of the time its something to do with the sensor.,,
