But at least they don't have ethanol in it (yet). I think the octane is 87. Works great - no pinging good power easy starts and mileage seems right on. How about you other 200 Scarabeo owners? What gas are you using. ,Chevron plus - 89,,,

Can I use unleaded gas in my 1981 bmw r100cs motorcycle

Hi, Anonymous not in your lifetime I have done many top ends back in the day where the valve and seat condition for running unleaded fuel on pre 1980 heads was not worth getting your BVD's in a bunch there was slightly more pitting but nothing worth mentioning for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Regular unleaded should work well in your motorcycle; it may actually start and run better with regular than with premium gasoline.

The big wild card, however, is the amount of ethanol in the gas you are buying. Your bike would definitely run best on "pure" gasoline that contains little or no ethanol, but that's getting harder and harder to find. Personally, I have noticed that my bikes have started harder and run worse as the ethanol content in gasoline has increased. That's one reason I actually recommend staying away from premium, which sometimes has more ethanol in it than regular (it raises octane). I prefer to keep my bikes stock, rather than messing with the carb jets to compensate for the different performance curve of ethanol-blend gas.

If it's available in your area, you might try running your bike with some Cam2 racing gasoline to see if that makes a difference. You don't need the extra octane in that fuel, and some varieties of that fuel may still contain lead (a no-no for your engine), but it doesn't contain ethanol, as far as I know. Double-check with whoever is selling this fuel in your area to make sure you're getting the unleaded stuff. If you find that your bike runs well with this fuel, you might consider blending a bit of it with pump gas on going-forward basis.

Can I use unleaded fuel in Suzuki 450 GS?

hi , i would say this should be fine, however if you are worried you could use a fuel addative, you may also ask yourself how long they have been using unleaded fuel in Japan, regular servicing, with a keen eye on valve clearences is probably the best way to go, hope this helps, paul

Regular unleaded will be fine. An old rule of thumb...if compression ratio is below 10:1 regular is fine. Use premium over 10:1 compression. You Suzuki is 9.4:1 and will run fine on regular unleaded. This should be listed in the owners manual and if you don't have one I would encourage you to go to a Suzuki dealer and order one for a small charge.

Hope this helps!

Premium unleaded gas is what you should use. If one or both cylinders is oiling up the spark plug it is time for a top end job. Have the cylinders bored then install new pistons and rings. While the head is off, lap the valves to get a new face on the valve and valve seat. This is minimal cost and very well worth it. If the gearbox is good, effectively, you now have a new bike.
