SOURCE: Nissan sentra keeps shutting off while driving

~lopez:
I had similar problems after getting my ECU replaced.
later i got a letter from nissan saying it was the wrong program they flashed on the ECU (think it was a maxima ECU they flashed into my sentra)
it only seemed to do it right after my car warmed up while i was slowing down (for a stop) but never cut out when i was at a complete stop.

you can call nissan to see if there are any recalls or updates for your ECU program (they should be free if there is)

if that does not work, or it cuts off while accelerating, try checking your fuel/air ratio, spark plugs, air filter, and fuel injectors. (a fuel filter can even cause cut-outs as well if it's seriously clogged, but it's usually hard to start as well)

kinda sounds like heat problems, check to make sure your temp gauge is working and see if this helps...
- when it cuts out on you, turn key all the way off, then turn it back to full on (but don't crank) this should let you rad. fan run without cranking your car. if this causes the wait time to be shorter before you can crank it again (less than an hour) then it's most likely a temp gauge, water pump, hose or even a belt.

SOURCE: 000 NISSAN Xterra -- after warming up, loses RPM by 500-1000..... have replaced ignition wires and distributor, checked mass air flow sensor and OK.....

I had a problem on my Nissan Xterra 2000. Symptons sound similar. In my case, it ran fine for a while and then suddenly the engine starts to stumble and lose output. At one point it did not even have enough HP to move. Irregular idling too. Thought it was water in my fuel. Bought water remover from the store and added to gas tank. Problem did not go away. Instead, "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Had to have it towed to the dealer as there was no way the engine could keep up with traffic. Dealer replaced the "Crank Position Sensor" today. Parts $33.00, Labor: $300 (about 3 hrs worth of work). Seems to work fine now but I will wait and see. Dealer also stated that Distributor bearing appears to be noisy and will need to be replaced sooner or later. I will wait for it to go before I fix that.

SOURCE: My Nissan Pickup is losing power

If you take the vehicle to a local shop, you can get a mechanic to do a compression check on each one of your cyllinders. This will tell you if your engine is holding pressure. If that checks out, it would have to be a fuel problem, (injectors, pump, filter, or clogged line) or maybe spend the couple bucks, and buy yourself a new MAF (mass airflow sensor) it may be the problem, but if not, it always helps to change.

91 ford aspire loses power after driving a while. Gradully loses power until none. Turning off the ignition and turning it back on temporarily resolves the problem.

Try changing the EGR valve. When this Exhaust Gases Recirculation valve gets stuck or ends up with a hole in the diaphram inside it, this will cause loss of power because it isn't working at all.

96 nissan xe pickup>no anything first key turns. then stereo channels need resetting as after dead battery.next turn starts vehicle. Ignition switch? any advice appreciated

The radio has a permanent power wire to keep it's station memory. You are losing power on this for some reason. Possibly starter motor is shorting the battery. Possibly one of the big earth straps is corroded.

Have you checked the battery terminals and starter terminals to see if they are clean and tight ? It sounds like a bad connection on a major circuit.

I have a 1988 Nissan Sentra. When I turn the key

Your problem is definately not a relay. It sounds as if the starter contact in your ignition switch is bad. The solution is to replace the ignition switch.
