Question about 1989 kawasaki GTR 1000

1983 kawasaki gtr 1000 wont start power getting to starting motor, also when clutch is pulled in still unable to push bike any ideas and are there's problems linked ??

My wifes 1995 kawasaki gtr 1000 (concourse, US import) wont go over 65 mph. Any ideas?


Hi Bvicario:
That bike should be a real performer.
I'd start by doing a full maintenance checkup:
- Air filter
- Spark plugs
- flush carb(s)
- fresh fuel (add conditioner like "sea foam"
- oil change
Then run it a bit and see what happens.
Check maintenance history - have the valves been checked?

It may be time for a visit to your favorite Tune up shop.

Why is Fixya no bloody good at answering questions when you advertise you can answer questions


Sorry. I\'m from Europe, know things about electronics and computers but I don\'t drive a Kawasaki GTR 1000. Lots of questions about electronics, camera\'s, computers phones and operating systems I try to answer. For the more than 2000 answers I gave I got lots and lots of thanks, but I never got one penny. All the people who try to answer questions, do this for free. They at least have the standard they don\'t try to sell crap or don\'t answer things they don\'t have any idea from.

If none of all the volunteers has (or has had) a Kawasaki GTR 1000 it is not likely anyone can answer this question. I do have some manuals, yes even service manuals of motor bikes, but not one from Kawasaki, so I even can\'t look up what I could answer to your question.

I think one call to a place where they sell Kawasaki cam tell you what oil you need. They perhaps even have it in stock. But not knowing any motor home close to me, I do not make such a call.



I hope you understand all the volunteers here do their best, but can\'t answer all questions. I do have to admit your questions are very clear and better to understand than lots of other questions, but we (till now) don\'t have an answer.

Gtr 1000 pushed starter clonk from engine engine seems locked solid


classic kawasaki hydraulic lock symptoms...basically a combination of sticking fuel tap plunger and sticking float valve on one of your carbs causes a cylinder to fill up with fuel. As this will not compress when the engine turns over the cylinder then locks up with a clonk. Easily confirmed by checking the oil as this will be contaminated with fuel...the level will have gone up and there will be a smell of petrol when you remove the filler cap. Unfortunately the commonest result of hydraulic lock is a bent conrod requiring an engine rebuild to replace.

Cold start ok warm start problem


Sounds like you need to adjust valves.

Just purchased a gtr 1 replaced the battery all


Try to start it at the soleniod switch by bridging the two points there ( i.e.one wire frm the battery and one tht goes to the starter motor right there on the solenoid).
If the starter still doesnt turn, thn you will have to remove it and overhaul.
Not bad to check the starter button too.

Flicker relay unit on kawasaki GTR 1000


I found a microfiche for the GTR1000 and it looks like the indicator-relay is mounted on the front-fairing inner-frame (fairing stay) on the right-hand side ie next to the headlamp-ish.
