Hi Anonymous, for big twin engines solid pushrods come in different lengths, depending on the manufacturer all four could be different lengths or only three will be different and two will be the same. Push rods that are the exactly the same length go into the intake slots. Sportster push rods will come in two different lengths the short ones go into the intake slots and the long ones go into the exhaust slots. For Big Twins that have four different lengths the order from shortest to longest is as follows: Rear Intake, Front Intake, Rear exhaust, Front Exhaust. Some OEM push rods will have colored bands that can be mismarked or the bands could partially or fully wear off, thats why I only go by length. Good luck and have nice day.

SOURCE: were does the singal red

The latest book I have is a 2002 model book and it says that the pushrods marked with three pink bands and are 10.800" (274.32mm) are exhaust pushrods. The intake pushrods are marked with a single brown band and are 10.746" (272.94mm) long. Lay all the pushrods side by side and check the lengths. The long pushrods are the exhaust pushrods.

Good Luck
Steve

On the 3.1L engine in the 1999 Chevy Malibu, I need to install the intake and exhaust rocker arm and push roods.

The exhaust push rods are the shorter of the two, the intakes of course are longer. The rocker arms should have been keep in order removed but they are the same for intake and exhaust valves. Torque to the rocker arms to 13 foot pounds.

Lay your pushrods in a row exactly like you removed them and work backwards to install them if you want each pushrod to set with its original lifter.

98 oldsmobile achieva front head push rod order

You are thinking too hard.

It is VERY simple. The Intake valve push rods (marked with ORANGE paint) are shorter than the exhaust valve push rods (marked with BLUE paint) If you cannot see the paint, you can always stand them up next to each other...it is pretty obvious which ones are which.

BOTH heads are EXACTLY the same - they are interchangeable. It is just that one is turned one way and the other is turned the other way so the exhaust and intake ports will be on the correct sides. (intake port towards the center of engine, exhaust port to the outboard sides of the engine.) You do not need to go searching the internet for some "order". All you have to do is LOOK AT THE HEAD to tell which valve is intake and which valve is exhaust.

So then it is as simple as: Put the short push rods on the intake and the long push rods on the exhaust....

My car blew the upper intake manifold gasket out so i replaced it and now it is flooding and won`t start

Im not sure what year, make or model car this is, the most common reason for a no start after an intake gasket chage is due to installing push rod in the wrong spot, this is mainly ture on the 3.1 and 3.4 and 2.8 and some other engines, the intake and exhaust push rods are diffrent sizes, i belive the exhaust valve uses a little longer pushrod than the intake, remove the valve cover and remove loosen the rocker arm and pull the first two push rods out, see if they are diffrent sizes, if so then install them in the correct location, let me know the result good day.
