Hi, Richard for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. SOURCE: Recently, it has become hard to downshift my 2006

If you are using an automotive oil , it may be causing the issue. You can use any oil that is JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate. 20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Car oils use different additives and may cause scoring in certain types of cam bearings. Do not use any oil that says " Energy Conserving " on the label . It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. If you choose Synthetic oils, they will help your bike run cooler and shift easier. At 1300 km you should have no problem switching over to full synthetic motor oil. I drive a 1976 GL1000 Goldwing and have similar shifting problems unless I use a full synthetic motorcycle oil . The problem is most noticeable in hot weather and just after getting off the freeway and onto city streets. Normal clutch problems on a cable clutch would be slippage caused by a binding cable, a worn clutch, or a cable set too tight.

2009 Baja DR70CC dirt bike won't start. Cleaned carb, new fuel, good spark, kill switch working, just won't fire. Not sure where to go from here.

Hi, Tim and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enricher.
5. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.

10. Severely discharged or damaged battery, you need 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
11. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
12. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.

The clutch fluid reservoir went dry I refilled and bled the air out now my bike doesn't want to downshift passed third gear once I get to fourth and need to downshift at stops.

Hi, Anonymous I would recommend bleeding it again and doing a proper clutch adjustment for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Suzuki, despair not, for a mere $10 you can download another one. Downshifting problems on honda shadow spirit 750 2008 motorcycle

Some bikes will have this problem no matter what age or condition. I was taught years ago to slow down and stop in second and downshift to neutral whilst slipping the clutch. First gear on bikes is pretty low in ratio and to match speed of engine with road speed is very difficult at times, so suggest using second. Try it.

disconnect linkage from transmission. Try moving the shift lever on the trans itself. If not binding the issue is with the linkage.

After replacing my clutch lever and adjusting the clutch cable at the adjustment location halfway down my cable, I am having problems downshifting, but only from 3rd and down... this makes it hard to make...

If the clutch was adjusted correctly it sounds like your throw out bearing could be going bad. Or you might have an issue with the clutch plates themselves. If you set the lever too tight you could have smoked the clutch plates. of course the same thing could happen with the adjustment being too loose. It almost sounds like it might be too loose. If you pull the cable out of the perch it should only come out of the perch the thickness of a quarter . any more and it's too loose and can't dis engage which would give you a hard to get into gear.
