SOURCE: need wiring diagram for a 1979 yamaha xs750

G'Day mate
Check out this site to find the exact model of your bike from the VIN here. You can get a wiring diagram for your model from the Biker.net website. There is usually a mess in the headlight tub, lots of dodgy previous owner "fixes". Sometimes it pays to strip it all out and work your way through it. Happy to give you advice on the electrics of this bike. I have plenty of experience:)

SOURCE: My 1978 yamaha xs750 special

Check your gas tank for rust, if it is rusty have it cleaned out with acid wash and gel coat the insides, follow the direction on the package, check your battery for voltage, pull you spark plugs out and give each cylinder a couple shots of oil in each cylinder to get some oil back into your cylinders, It will smoke some so please do it outside and not in a garage, when you get it running put a volt meter on your battery and see of it is charging, should see 14+ volts on a good rev, if not you may need to install a electronic regulator/charger made just for you model of bike, Mikes XS sell great parts for yamaha, everything you would ever need, brake kits, petcocks, electrical items etc.... Any question feel free to ask! Rick

Why does my 1979 yamaha xs 750 special have weak fire?

Hi, Karin and the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and CDI box.
5. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose, check for spark leakage in the dark.
6. Faulty ignition coil, pick up coil, trigger coil or CDI box testing needs to be checked with an ohmmeter at 70 degrees Fahrenheit
7. Faulty safety switches clutch, kickstand, neutral, off/on etc.
8. Faulty ignition switch.

Describe how to dismantle the drive shaft on a 79 yamaha xs750 special.

jack up the bike at the motor & remove the rubber covering the front of the shaft!
from my recollection there should be a lock bolt under the rubber
rotate shaft to get at it
youll need another person to help as its a fidly job [watch your fingers]
remove rear shocks & pull out the whole rear drive assembly!
Cheers Rob

Oil coming out of valve due to oil overfill problem, will the valve re-shut or close itself? Model is a XS750.

It should shut itself, but perhaps it is stuck, maybe take it to your local Yamaha dealer and see if they know for sure. This (and my previous offering) is the best I can offer, so I have marked it as a solution, hopefully you have luck with it.
