SOURCE: engine knocks on idle

Hi northjames8
I would be checking that the rotor has been torqued up properly too. You  can get a manual from here. Is for later model bike, but the essence of these things should be the same. Thanks for using Fixya.Good luck with getting it sorted. A FixYa vote is a great reward for helping you out here. Cheers

SOURCE: yamaha big bear no spark

I'm not familiar with all quads and all the kill switch locations. Does it have a tip-over kill switch? Is it working? Is the quad in neutral? Is the neutral light on? Many engines will not spark if the neutral light is not on. Are the headlights off when starting?

How good is your battery? A low battery can kill spark. Test for spark by grounding the threads of the plug against the cylinder. Have a friend kick the bike while you watch for spark. Assuming no spark, then check all the kill switches with an Ohmmeter to be sure each switch is working properly. Sometimes a switch goes bad. Try disconnecting all kill switches then check spark.

Check the wiring harness, even under the gas tank and seat. Are all the connectors clean and with a tight connection? Any abraded wires? Check the ignition switch also. The switch can go bad as well. Are the flywheel coils good > is the battery getting a charge?

Still no spark? If CDI then get it checked.
If points then file or replace them along with a new condensor and reset the gap then time the engine. >> I hope this helps.

How do I adjust the float on my 2000 big bear carb...Carb is a mikuni 5fua L2

remove the carb, take off the bottom float bowl on the carb. Then while holding the carb upside down, you want to set the floats level. You will have to bend the little tab on the float needle to do so.

I got a 95 big bear and i got a problem with a rough idle and back fires

If it's been sitting around for a while it could be the idle jet has a little craip in it (it don't take much) but if it's spitting fuel out then I would make sure the float levels aren't sticking.

2000 marauder leaks gas out of overflow tube on the carberater only when starting or running

the floats in the bottom of the carb need adjusting the are to low

When setting the float level be aware that the spring loaded bumper on the fuel inlet needle valve may have a tendency to compress under the weight of the float assembly which will skew your measurement. Before you obtain your measurement you'll need to make sure that the float assembly tang just barely makes contact with the spring-loaded bumper. Sometimes it is easier to hold the carb body at a 45-degree angle to avoid compressing the spring in the fuel inlet needle.

If you find that your measurement does not match your float level spec then you can carefully bend the float assembly tang to achieve your desired measurement. Be sure to recheck your work, and if you feel confident that your float level is spot on then you can reinstall your carb and get back to riding.

82 flh clutch adjustments

Doesn't matter. Sounds like you have it in properly, and the high end play you're getting can be adjusted out. Adjust it to where the you don't have the high end play, and also be sure that there is no low end drag. High end being 70-80 mph and low end being idle, I say this because I've had to deal with some weekend warriors lately that would like to work on their own bikes, but don't know their wank from a torque wrench. If you've installed your own clutch, I know I'm not dealing with one. Now, keep in mind that if you can't get the adjustment from the current set up, then you may need to add a friction, steel, or spacer, in order to get it working properly. I suggest adding a friction, however, you will have to keep within tolerance, so in some cases, a friction or steel won't work, and you have to go with a spacer. Also check the ramp and bearings, if you haven't already. A bent or worn ramp, or bad ramp bearing can cause a float at higher speeds. Let me know what you found.
