Whoever told you that you need a new transmission was correct!! I had to have mine replaced last September. Unless you have a friend that's a mechanic it's going to cost you at least $2000.00 if not $2500.00. Hopefully you have some mechanic friends. GOOD LUCK

Never, never, ever take the advice of a mechanic. they are in the buisness to make money. find a friend or a friend of one. sometimes you can get things fixed for a case of beer.

The automatic transmissions of today's cars are electonically controlled by the ECM, when a problem arises the transmission will send a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) to your ECM. You will need to take your car to a mechanic to test and replace the Reverse Solenoid in your transmission, the pan will have to be pulled off to do that.

Just check the transmission oil levels first, if they are low this will stop it from engaging into gear.

My 1995 Dodge Stratus

your ultradrive transmission is dead.

you will need a new transmission. such a sudden failure is common with ultradrive transmissions.

you should have 3rd and reverse. its called limp home mode. its the death rattle of the ultradrive transmission.

I HAVE A 1999 DODGE STATUS - TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS

your ultradrive transmisson has failed, and your stuck in limp home mode. you have 3rd and reverse.

that was the good news.

the bad is that you need a new transmission. the ultradrive transmissions are very problematic. do a wikipedia.org search on chyrsler ultradrives and than write a really angry letter.

your not the only one that transmission has left of the side of the road
