Question about 1997 Honda CB 400 Four
If the headlight dies right out when you crank the motor then the battery is usually dead. It may read on a voltmeter that it has 12 volts but that does not necessarily mean the battery is charged.Have the battery checked and charged properly then try and start the bike again.Regards

Your carb may be adjusted a little lean. Try adjusting the needle, keeping track of the changes you make, and blipping the throttle full to check the result.
