Can't start my Honda CB400-Four 1997. Battery seems to be ok. Could it be the Regulator/Rectifier? It has been lying up over the winter. It did start a couple of weeks ago, cut out and hasn't

If the headlight dies right out when you crank the motor then the battery is usually dead. It may read on a voltmeter that it has 12 volts but that does not necessarily mean the battery is charged.Have the battery checked and charged properly then try and start the bike again.Regards

Your carb may be adjusted a little lean. Try adjusting the needle, keeping track of the changes you make, and blipping the throttle full to check the result.

Honda CB 400 Four will not turn over only clicks

Hi, Anonymous before testing any electrical component in the Starting System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand, clutch, neutral safety switch.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter motor or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. Faulty ignition relay.
14. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
15. Check for engine trouble codes.

Battery went dead & I replaced battery with a new battery, wont hold a charge. Is the stater bad?

If the battery is good, but the bike is not charging, it is either the stator or the regulator/rectifier. If you confirm that the stator is good (resistance and output check) then the regulator/rectifier is the problem.

Battery wont charge the battery is ok but during the day its like the bike is not charging the battery and the bike wont start i heard that the leads between the regulator to the battery could be worn,help...

The most common problem is the 3-wire connector being burnt between the stator and regulator/rectifier. It has also been commonly reported that the regulator/rectifier and/or stator may need replacement.
