The cheapest route is to overhaul the and clean the carb. The only pproblem is that you can have both of them be the problem. On mine I had to replace the jets and overhaul the carb to get it running right. It ran better when I just did the carb but not how I wanted it to.

SOURCE: I have a carbureted ZX-11. I am going from 4500

you have to adjust the carb for sure on your way up and down.... the reasoning behind it is the air change... the higher you go the less air there is, lower you go the more air there is... you'll feel your bike struggle, bogg and spurt and thats when you know to pull over and adjust it while its running....

There is only a manual for an XR250 but it may have the information you need. Go to http://www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp , and download a (free) manual.

as long as you get the same inside diameter to match the inlet manifold. you can change the idle and main jets accord to the mean altitude (small jets at sea level, larger jets at 12,000ft in the mountains for example. your supplier should be able to match the inlet manifold and the correct carb and jetting for your location

Need to rejet 1999 xr250r for sea level

You will need to go down in # jet sizes on both the pilot jet ( low end ) and the main jet ( top end ) since the air is thinner at higher altitude you will need create more air than fuel. For example if you had a 340 main jet you would go with a 320 or a 325. and the pilot jet would also go to a lower #.

I just moved from Charleston, SC to Colorado and went from sea level to 6,200 Ft above sea level...do I need to make any adjustments for the higher altitude?

Typically, When you go over 3000 ft above sea level you should adjust the calibration or jetting in the carbs. If the bike is very sluggish at 6200 ft you may have to lean the carb out by installing smaller jets and lowering the needles. the carbs are very intricate and should only be serviced by a qualified technician.
Thanks and I hope that this helps.

What should the stock carb jets be for a 94 yz250 with the stock pipe and aftermarket silencer

Stock Jetting for a 1994YZ250 is:

350 main
45 pilot
J8-6EJ33-61 needle

Adjust your jetting down one size for each 1000' of elevation above sea level. Needle clip position on the needle fine tunes the pilot circuit.

Do i need to re-jet the carb?

Hi, Cg_brewer for the day no for an extended period of time yes for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. Delay gas power

it takes it a sec or two for the engine to respond. For instance if I'm in neutral and all of a sudden I give it some gas for about a second it'll be like I haven't touched it, stays the same sound and all, and then revs up. It's like it's delayed or something. This happens on and off with it.,Stabbing in the dark...... jetting too rich(pilot jets)?, choke sticking?, air screws out of adjustment? carbs out of balance? time warp messing with your perception?,,,

Re jet the carburetors

Carburetors supply a mixture of gasoline and air to the engine. The gas comes out of little things called “jets” (usually a pilot jet needle jet and main jet). If you modify your airbox or exhaust to flow more freely you get more air going through your system. This often means that there is not enough gasoline so the engine runs badly. “Rejetting” means replacing or modifying some of these jets so as to supply gasoline differently than stock, usually more gasoline than stock. If done correctly, this allows your engine to generate more power, run a little cooler, start and run smoother and get worse mileage. ,,,
