SOURCE: yamaha waverunner excessive smoke

White smoke means coolant in the combustion chamber. Most likely a blown head gasket. You will have to tear the engine apart to be sure.

SOURCE: 1989 yamaha waverunner. I purchased

Did you get any instructions from the previous owner? If it's a 4 stroke waverunner there will be a dipstick on the engine block, but I'm guessing it's probably a 2 stroke engine because most watercraft used 2 stroke motors clear through the 1990's. The oil will be mixed with the gasoline when you fill it, bottles of 2 stroke oil can be purchased at most stores that carry oil. Your waverunner can be mixed at 50:1, which equals out to be 2.6 oz of oil per gallon of gasoline. On a 2 stroke engine the engine gets lubrication from the oil mixed with fuel and will burn up fast if straight gasoline is used. Let me know if you have any troubles, but try to get ahold of the previous owner to get some more info.

It's best to use a new gasket, however I have reused carb gaskets, and it worked fine. It will probably work ok if the gasket is not torn or deformed to any great degree. I smear a thin coat of Permatex non hardening sealant no.2 on both sides. If you can get new ones, that's best.

I have a 1992 Yamaha Waverunner III that needs a new starter. Is a gasket used between the starter and engine?

No gasket, just an o-ring that should already be installed on the new starter.

Have a 2003 Yamaha Waverunner XLT1200 with an exhust alram that goes off. What is wrong?

Possible Catalytic Converter. If still in, it will require a D-Plate.
If it has been replaced before, then the resistor chip may need replacing.

Check it out as soon as possible. You do not want this overheating on a long run.
Good luck with it.

Waverunner used to do 90kms on speedo now i can only get 70kms what do you think the problem might be?

Methinks the speedo head is lazy. Defective. Verify cable and drive have adequate lubricant. - Ned

YAMAHA WAVERUNNER 2000 XL 800, WILL NOT RUN PAST 12 MPH

Have you done a compression test on all cylinders? My guess is you have a dead cylinder (no oil to one or more cylinders causing loss of power). If the compression test passes (all cylinders equal and higher than 100-110 psi) you have a restricted exhaust from a failed catalytic converter that has broken apart.

Water is coming out of the cylinder head studs

Most likely the head gasket. remove it and make sure the surface on the cylinder and head are flat, and replace the gasket if they are good. Be sure to torque the head bolts and tighten in a criss-cross way. (Inspect the old gasket to verify where it leaked.)
