Seperating the electrical connection on radio in rover45 2001

If you know how, pull the radio and see if it has a seperate fuse on the back, not sure if yours has it or not, some do. My radio had to be replaced where the logic board inside the radio went band and would not turn off or on, gd luck with it hope this helped

find where the two wires meet and make sure they are seperated somhow especially where there is exposed copper. if you find exposed copper anywhere along either wires cover it with two wraps of electrical tape this should insulate the wires from arcing to one another.

Sounds like an electrical NIGHTMARE to me! Don't know why anybody would want to do that to a vehicle.

It would probably be a lot less work to just run new wires to everything than it would be to try to modify the vehicle wiring harnesses to accomodate an aftermarket radio that does not require a seperate amp.....

if its the stock radio check the connections on the wiring harness coming off the radio if they are fine then check the speakers themselves the wires are loose just tighten the connections if its not that then look in you owners manuel and see if there is a seperate fuse for the speakers, also its possible but not likely that you speakers are blown, but if they worked before and they just randomly shut off it may just be the connection. if its an after market headunit check all the connections make sure they are tight and secure make sure all of the wires are hooked up correctly. thats all that comes to mind ive never really worked much with newer stock radios hope this helps

I'm not being difficult but you will have problems doing this if you already lack the knowlege of how to do it. I would not recomend this but if you must do it your best bet would be to splice into the cig lighter supply and fuse a seperate supply from it to your phone charger. Take neg from chassis at a suitable point. You can tuck the phone charger under the plastic cover of the hand brake.
You must fuse this supply as close as possible to the splice point and ensure that the wire you use is suitable for the short circuit current rating of the fuses. Get someone suitably experianced to check out the work if you are unsure, the high current supply to the cig lighter could easily cause a fire if incorrectly altered.

Check the fuses first. IF the fuses are good check the power TO the radio. There is sometimes a fuse within the positive lead to the radio, . If that fuse is good, try to provide a seperate power source to the radio to power it up. e.g. a battery charger on 4-6 amps is a good way to get power to the system. NEVER power the computer with an outside power source, as the amps will destroy it. The problem COULD also be the computer, although this problem is rare, it CAN happen.

The memory wire of the radio,(the power for the clock and channel settings) is usually connected to the same circuit as the cigarette lighter. (there is a seperate fuse for radio) Check your cigarette lighter socket for damage or dirt, etc. could be causing the memory fuse to blow. Also check your cig lighter accesories (like cell phone chargers,etc.)

P.S. The backlight is also a seperate circuit (connected to interior light/parking light circuit)

The actual problem may be with the radio itself in the preamp circuit or the cabling from the radio to the amp. Since you are getting output from the Sub, that means the amp has power and so does the radio. However, the standard audio line is usually seperate since the selection of speakers is controlled from the radio itself and the sub is constant except for volume

look at the battery connection in the boot it tends to get seperated after a accident , you need to the replace the battery plus connection , yo get this from the main dealer for around 100 euro ??
