Sounds like the Fuel sender unit in the fuel tank needs replacing however you may want to check that the electrical plugs are contacting properly,Check that the gauge is working by putting a piece of wire from the sender unit wire to the chassis,at the fuel tank sender unit plug,Turn ignition on while watching gauge if it moves toward fill turn ignition off and remove wire to chassis. If gauge moves it means from the fuel tank to fuel gauge is intact and not your problem.

Why fuel gauge not working gas guage on 2009 santa fe stays on empty even with a full tank of gas. Guage fluctuates from empty to 3/4 full to empty to 1/3 full at any given time.

It could be the sending unit in the tank or the gauge on the dash. A mechanic would test the signal coming from the sending unit to verify.

Car of year 1998, when tank is full or medium from fuel, guage shows empty. When tank is completely empty, the guage shows full. Guage is of digital type with the bars. What can I do ? Any tests I...

Digital gauge also gets its input for fuel level from a float in the tank. Here the culprit can be that float because the error is systematic i.e., full on empty and empty on full/half. If the reading was erratic then it was something to do with IC in the bars display panel.

My BMW X1 shut off in the middle of the road eventhough it had a 1/4 tank of petrol left. BMW suggested I fill it up with petrol and it started again. I am left confused as to why that happened...

The fuel sender unit could be faulty. It says 1/4 tank even though it is almost empty. Carry a jerry can of gas in the back , and run it down to 1/4 or less to see if the problem repeats itself.
The gas guage and trip computer are only as accurate as the float in the tank.

Grand prix gas gauge not working

should be a grey wire going to the top of fuel tank connects to fuel guage / when the guage in the tank reads grounded it shows full , no ground it shows empty. if you ground that grey wire and the guage jumps to full then faulty guage if nothing maybe bad ground on the tank itself. the guages are a reostat like a tyco race car gun the more it moves the more it grounds .. good luck

Petrol gauge was working fine before a 5 week holiday. Car not used during this time. Now petrol gauge shows tank empty, even after I had filled the tank. What is wrong? How do you fix this?

sounds like the float is either got a hole in it and is full of fuel, or the whole float assembly is seized in the empty position.
was the car left for 5 weeks empty of fuel?

The fuel sender in tank is faulty. It is in your gas tank. Common chevrolet problem.

Petrol light reading empty when full.

you can check to see if your guage is getting electricity to it with a test light first and foremost, and then use a wire to directly give it electricity without it being connected to the harness itself and see if it moves too, if it moves with giving it electricity then it's not the guage itself... then check the wires at the tank to see if the harness is getting electricity there. if it is and the guage isn't moving when you wiggle the harness, drop the tank and replace the assembly as a unit that goes inside the tank that has the float attached that makes the guage work.
