Rocker arm specs

Installing the rocker arms and rotating the engine with the valve
train loaded can result in bent push rods, damaged bushings
or a warped support plate.

To install the rocker arm support plate, both lifters of the
cylinder being serviced must be on the base circle (or
lowest position) of the cam.
Place the rocker arm support plate assembly into the rocker housing. Loosely install the four
rocker arm support plate bolts with flat washers.
Tighten the rocker arm support plate bolts in a cross pattern and alternately tighten
each of the four rocker arm support plate bolts just 1/4 turn. THEN continue turning the bolts in these increments until snug. THEN following the same sequence, tighten the bolts to 18-
22 ft-lbs (24.4-29.8 Nm).

THEN install and alternately tighten the two bolts to secure breather assembly to 90-120 in-lbs (10.2-13.6 Nm).

How do i change the valve cover gaskets on a 05 h.d.low rider

To change the rocker box gaskets, simply take the bolts out of the top of the rocker boxed. You'll probably have to take the tank off to get to the bolts and there should be a hole in the frame to get the left side rear bolt out of the rear cylinder rocker box. Replace the "umbrella valve" in each center section while you're in there. Bolts torque to 100 inch pounds.

Good Luck

My front rocker box is leaking oil

Simple fix. Take the fuel tank off and remove the four bolts that hold the rocker box covers on. If the rocker box is leaking there, simply put a new gasket in place, carefully align the top plate and put the bolts back in. Torque them to 100 inch pounds.

If the lower rocker is leaking remove the smaller 1/4" bolts and then remove the larger 5/16 inch bolts. Remove the larger bolts a turn at a time until they are completely loose. Lift the lower rocker plate and replace the gaskets. Reposition the lower plate and align the pushrods in the rocker arms. Do not mix up the push rods, mark them if necessary. Tighten the 5/16" bolts down evenly until just seated. Then put the 1/4" bolts in. Torque the 5/16" bolts to 15-18 ft. lbs and 1/4" 10-13 ft. pounds. Reinstall the middle and upper rocker boxes and torque those bolts.

Good Luck

They are called "rocker box top cover bolts", I guess because they hold the top cover of the rocker box on. The size is 1/4 in X 20 tpi. I don't know how long they are though. I've had hundreds of them out but never measured one. Just guessing, I'd say about an inch long but what I'd do is take one out and measure it. Once you have the measurement, put it back in and torque to 100 inch pounds. When you get the new bolts, replace them one at a time.

1994 sporster 883 rocker box bolt torque specs and order

unless you have the motor out its near if not impossible to get a torque wrench on the bolts so what most do use blue loctite on your bolts and draw all bolts down evenly till you make metal to metal [cover to rocker] then maybe 1/8 turn more the key is even torque
