Question about 2006 KTM 50 Senior Adventurer

My son's KTM 50 senior pro doesn't start. has petrol vapour coming out of the pipe.

My son was riding his KTM 50 Pro when it just bogged down and stopped. I've tried to start the bike many times, however, it only idles, then when I try to accelerate, it just dies. I've checked the plug...and there seems to be a fair amount un-burnt fuel on it. I've installed a new plug and cleaned the carby. Any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

The engine is running too rich. The carburator needs tuning to get the fuel mixture correct or the choke may be stuck in a partially closed position.

My brother has a 2004 ktm pro senior 50 went for a ride after 20 minutes it died and now the spark just comes and goes..can someone help me, please


Hi, Bowe the following applies to carbureted also fuel injected models and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw improperly adjusted.
10. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
11. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
12. Fuel tank empty.
13. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
14. A failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.
15. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
16. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.

Did you check youre compression and did you use the right size piston for the head also did you measure the cylinder bore for tapering

Bike is bogging down


Check the fuel filter and lines, when reving out sometimes even the smallest thing in the fuel lines can cause blockage under strain. Good luck!

Sounds like you have a low coolant, restricted flow, or a water pump issue.

Make sure the coolant is present when cold and up to the top fill level. If not fill with 50% antifreeze and water solution.

Inspect the radiator fins and make sure there is not any obstructions preventing air flow. Inspect all the fittings to make sure no dents or restrictions exist. Twists or kinks in hoses. Tighten all hose clamps to ensure no coolant is leaking. Drain the transmission fluid and refill it to the proper level (Low oil would increase low rpm friction)

Disassemble the water pump from the left side case and inspect the impeller and drive parts.

My ktm has plenty of spark but is flooding itself out everytime it is fired. Sometimes it will run for a bit then bog out. Other times it will start and just run for a few seconds then bog out. The plug is...


Thank you for contacting FixYa with your issue.
Usually when it comes to excessive fueling or gas overflow we should start by looking at the float or the needle valve turning of the fuel actuated by the tab on the float turnoff. Chances are the bike was stored over the winter and the gas shellacked up and the float or needle valve is sticking (or possibly hanging in the open position in this case) .
Remove or disassemble the carburetor and clean the the jets, the float valve, (confirm the mini spring is properly connected and attached). Check the float to make sure it's operative and nothing is bent or dented so it's hanging. Give everything a thorough cleaning and air blow with with pressure can.
If the jetting has been changed out go back to stock jetting. Check to make sure the Thumbscrew for the air jet hasn't vibrated off. Should be out about 1 1/2 turns from the home position.
