SOURCE: removing harley davidson ultra classic gas tank

Drain the fuel either by siphening or removing the cross over tube at the front of the tank and letting it drain that way or just block off those cross over lines and leave the fule in the tank for removal.

0) remove seat
1) drain fuel
2) undo cross over line (bottom front of gas tank.
3) shut off pet **** and remove fuel line from pet ****.
4)there should only be 2 bolts holding the tank on, one at the top front of the tank and one at the back of the tank.

All in all a pretty easy (but possibloy messy) job.

SOURCE: remove ignition switch from 2000 harley-davidson

To remove the ignition switch turn the handle bar fully to the right, turn the ignition switch to access position and with the key in the switch depress the tab under the switch with a small screwdriver (the tab is to the lower left under the knob) and while pressing down on the key, turn the key counterclockwise about 60 degrees. At that point the switch will pull out of the housing.

2005 FLHTCUI key switch replacement. Mitchell's Harley Davidson wrecked my bike. Last thing they did before I took it back was break the key switch.

I can't swear to the accuracy of these instructions as I don't mess with the later Twin Cam bikes. I work on the older Shoveheads, Panheads, and Ironhead Sportsters that the dealers won't work on. But, a friend sent this to me. Maybe it works. Good Luck.

Here's the procedure to remove the IGNITION /LIGHT KEY SWITCH AND FORK LOCK for a 2005 FLHT/C/U or FLTR (Domestic): Tools needed for removing ignition switch A T27 Torx, a small flat blade screwdriver, 7/8 wrench.

1. Remove the outer fairing and windshield

2. To remove the ignition switch, insert the ignition switch key and turn to the UNLOCK position. Leaving the key installed, rotate the knob to ACCESS. Depressing the release button at bottom (left side) with a small screwdriver, push key down and turn an additional 60 degrees in a counter-clockwise direction. Lift and remove knob.

3. Using a 7/8 wrench on flats, loosen switch nut and remove from threaded post of ignition switch housing. Remove collar and spacer.

4. Using a T27 TORX drive head, remove the two screws (with flat washers) that secure fairing cap to left and right sides of fairing.

5. Remove the switch position plate by pulling tabs from slots in faring cap. If necessary, raise the fairing cap slightly to facilitate removal.

6. With the forks turned fully to the left, disconnect the Fairing cap switch connector (105) 12-place Multilock (black), from behind right side of fairing cap. Depress the button on the plus side of the connector to pull apart the pin and socket halves.

7. Remove the fairing cap from the motorcycle.

8. Locate the ignition switch connector (33), 4-place Packard, at bottom of radio. Slide connector off anchor and separate pin and socket halves.
9. Remove the socket screws (with flat washers) and lift the switch housing from the upper fork bracket bore. Route the ignition switch connector to rear of inner fairing and remove switch housing from the vehicle.

I HAVE A BAD IGNITION SWITCH IN MY 1996 FLHP AND CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO REMOVE HEAD OF SWITCH TO REMOVE AND REPLACE.

I have no experience with these types of ignition switches. Here's something that someone sent to me once. It may help you figure out how to work on your switch. I always avoided those switches as someone said that you had to have a special tool to reassemble the switch once you took it out. An alignment tool of some sort. So, I sent anyone with a problem with one to a shop that knew what they were doing. You may want to check with Harley Davidson Customer Service on that switch. Seems that there was a recall on the ignition switches on bikes built somewhere around the time your's was built. I think I ran into a '94 model that was covered under a recall. He took it to a dealer and they fixed it at no charge. If you call Harley, have your VIN number handy.

Good Luck

steve

1998 Harley davidson FLHTCU key switch removal and installation

To remove the ignition switch, insert the key into the switch and turn it to acc position. Then with a small screwdriver under the switch on the bottom left side there is a small tab that you press in. At that point, turn the key about 60 degrees to the left and the ignition switch will pull out. To install it, do not change the position of any internal components just push the ignition switch back in and holding it so it does not turn turn the key back to the acc position.

HOW DO I REMOVE IGNITION SWITCH/FORK LOCK?

Look under the switch knob for a small square pin sticking down.  You need to push this pin up while turning the key to the left, and pushing this pin in will allow the lock cylinder to turn which releases the tab that holds the entire ignition knob into the bike.  I usually push this tab with one of those small pocket screwdrivers.  re-Installing the switch can be a real pain unless you make sure not to move anything while it is out, and even then the first time will be rather frustrating.  Let me know if you need more help re-installing it.
