The belt might run the balance shaft.

04 Kia optima... I replaced broken timing belt and the engine turns over but doesn't start

Did you make sure the belt was installed with the timing marks lined up properly? If you forgot to look at the timing marks it will not start and you may damage the engine trying to start it.

I bought used Optima 2004 with mileage around 120k, i'm worried about the timing belt. Should I change it now? When should we make second or third change after the 60k timing belt change.

to be on the safe side id change the belt every 55,000 to 65;000 miles make sure u change the belt tensioner as well they fail more than the belt

HOW MANY MILES BEFORE YOU CHANGE TIMING BELT ON 2004 KIA OPTIMA

most manufactures recommend changing timing belt at or around 60,000, if the belt breaks while operating the car it could cause serious engine damage

2004 KIA Optima LX timing belt/water pump

The thing is your doing the timing belt the water pump is right their with it . it should cost you much more at all besides the cost of the water pump. When doing a timing belt I have a rule that I go by The timing belt/seals =cam , crank , any pulley & tensioner & water pump all get replaced at the same time. I did a t-belt on a Audi A-8 very complex whole front of car has to come off as well, he didnt want to do w-pump & thermostat his thermostat was their as well not even a month later the water pump gave out he had to pay double the price because he didnt want to do it when I had it apart the first time. And make sure mechanic is ase certified . good luck

My 2004 Kia optima died right in the middle of me driving down the road. What is going on with it I replaced the battery and it still wont work

Check the crank position sensor.

Also make sure the belt tensioner is in good shape(its hydraulic) Also there is a circular metal plate behind crank sensor that needs to be clean and not cracked/dammaged. check these items and let me know if it fixes.

The timing also has to be perfect or you will have issues. there are timing marks on the belt pulleys
