Check the air cleaner. when the filter is blocked it can flow enough air for idle and slow running, but when you accelerate the engine requires more air fast.
Hey Kenneth,
Sounds like the carburetor needs a Qualified Professional to clean and set it.. check the compression, it should be >120PSI., if not..fix it..
once you HAVE done this... it should run fine...
It sounds like its time to have the carbuerator cleaned more then likely you have some varnish build up in the idle circuit. I cant remember if that bike has a fuel filter in line from the tank but if it does I would recommend changing that first as it could simply be starving the motor of fuel at idle.
Check for intake leaks where the carburetor manufolds connect to the heads, when it is running at idle dpray WD40 around the area if the idle increases there is a intake leak. reolace the gasket/gaskets,and since the carb will be off clean it or have a mechanic do it.
Has the bike been stored for any long length of time? old fuel in the carburetor will turn to a varnish like residue blocking the jets,or possibly water in the carburetor.
I am not a Moto Guzi mechanic but in the world of Japanese bikes the problem would be trash in the carb partially blocking the main jet and / or internal fuel circuits. Tighten all fittings, carb to manifold as air leaks could be contributing to the problem. If your bike has fuel injection, have the fuel pump checked. Be sure the gas tank venting is not plugged whether carb or injection. Check and clean the filter screens on the pickup tubes inside the gas tank. Be certain the exhaust pipes are clear of obstructions. An internal collapse inside an exhaust pipe can restrict air flow. The bike can not run properly if it can't get rid of burned gasses. Remove the exhaust pipes briefly to eliminate the exhaust system as a problem. I guess I should mention the obvious, how clean is the air filter? Bikes gotta breathe in and out too. If these ideas don't help, just re-post the problem and perhaps someone else has an idea. Best wishes.
I think you need to check the idling acceleration in your bike. As far as i know only when your idling speed is low you engines get shut after a short span of time. There will be a small srew near your engine with which you can adjus your idling. Check it out..
OOO not good sounds like some of the head gasket got stuck somewhere, or the gauge or sender is bad or got knocked around when repairing the head gasket. I would check that first. If that checks out will need to drop the pan to see if something got stuck in the pickup tube, might as well change the pump while you are there. Or worst case some thing wrong with gasket job impeading oil flow back to bottom of the engine. Was the oil and filter changed ?if so pull out filter and see if an chunks are stuck in it now. And change oil and filter again. Sorry that was out of order I had a long day
i'd start with removing the carbs and giving them a thorough cleaning as when bikes sit for so long, the carbs begin to get gummy/varnished from the old gas.
check for blocked holes in the pilot jet & main jet and look for "hard & dried up" gas in passages. be careful of the float bowl gasket as to not tear it or you will need a replacement.
