SOURCE: 2004 Vrod, the alarm won't allow the bike to turn
Make sure you are entering the correct code. if you don't know it contact the original dealer. Each dealer sets their own units to a specific code be it 12345 or 11111, bur the dealer should be able to tell you what their standard setting is. If you are entering the code right and it still won't turn over make sure you have the clutch lever pulled in. There is a switch on the clutch perch. If that doesn't work you could possibly have a bad TSSM ( turn signal security module ) which controls the ground for the starter.

SOURCE: what is the shift pattern on a 2005 vrod
How in the world did you end up with a motorcycle and you don't know how to shift it?
Standard shift pattern is down one, then up one click at a time to the top gear using the toe of your left foot. Down shift by tapping down, each tap goes down one gear through the neutral space to first. Neutral is down one up one. A neutral light should come on to indicate you are not in a gear. NEVER PUT ALL YOUR TRUST IN THAT LIGHT.
My friend, may I suggest you seek out and take the Basic Rider Course from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation before you go any further. It will not only teach you the basic operation of your motorcycle, which will help you obtain your driver license, it will also earn you a discount on your insurance. While it will not guarantee you a safe ride, it will give you the tools you need to be a safe and responsible rider.
Contact motorcycle dealers in your area to find out where you can take the BRC. Or, you can check here: http://www.msf-usa.org/index_new.cfm?spl=2&action=display&pagename=RiderCourse%20Info
Please don't ride your motorcycle until you understand how it works and you get the skills necessary to safely operate it.
Thank you
