Car wont start when turn off changed battery/nuetral switch

won't unluck you kent

wiggle steering, and turn key same time.
unlocks it.
or are front tires against the curb?
or packed in ice?

There is a key position switch in the steering wheel. If this is reading wrong or sensor stuck in position it will not crank or run. Can you hear the fuel pump cycle when you turn key?

The problem is in the wiring harness,yes the battery and starter is good, the harness you repaired is the PRNDL. for the starter to start it need a path when the vehicle is Park or Nuetral,there the path is closed some how by Park and Nuetral the path is open.Thats why there is a no start.when in park or nuetral the path is closed.

The ignition switch in the column most likely has a break in it. So when you move the steering wheel, it moves the wire so it completes the connection when you turn the key. Have the ignition switch replaced.

If the engine will always crank over normally when the transmission is in Nuetral but not in Park then you may have a failing transmission mounted Park/Nuetral safety switch. [This switch may also be called a Range position switch or a PRNDL switch] If the problem will occur equally when in Park or Nuetral then you would need to test to see if the starter solenoid control wire is actually being powered up when the key is in the crank position and follow the circuit back to find the cause of the problem. Check all wiring. wiring to starter from switch, check if nuetral safety swith is connected. be sure wiring harness at the switch is ok. is battery charged?

If it wont crank, there are several things in the starting circuit, It starts with the battery, then you have all the cabling, ignition switch, and nuetral saftey switch. Check your battery and cabling first, thats the most common. Ford has had a lot of problems with there ignition switches. With a volt meter, you will just have to go through and test one component at a time.

Park nuetral switch....ignition switch come to mind. Try it in nuetral next time and see what happens.

Hi, sounds to me like you may need to adjust the ignition switch ,losen the two screws that hold it on and move it up or down til the car turns off at the same time it shounld make the steering wheel lock,hope this help's.steve
