Describe the noise. Is it a hiss, like something isn't connected tightly?Or is it a horn sound? IF it's a horn sound,it could be coming from a component right at the rear of the engine. I replaced one on my boy's Crown Vic.It's hard to do without having some good selections of 1/4"drives or small wrenches.
That sound got so bad that people were getting mad at Justin because they thought he was sounding his horn at them.
I don't remember the name of the component,but it cost me 50 bucks at Auto-Zone. don-ohio (:^D

1990 toyota 4runner knocking noise from air intake will turnover but wont start

Knocking noise in the air intake or do you mean a lifter noise, because you let it sit the lifter are not charged up or solidified,so you dont get adequate compression when you turn it over.if you have fuel and spark thats fine what about compression, noise from the air intake make me wonder if the timing belt is intacted.

has it always done it? do you have an aftermarket cold air intake on it? if it has always done it...i think u r talking bout the vacuum relief of the intake manifold. no big deal

Engine has a slight whistling noise, increses with acceleration.

Lift the hood and listen to the engine while it's running and see if you can locate where the noise is coming from. Check to see if all your cold air intake connections on the engine are tight and check all your vacuum hoses. Do you have an aftermarket cold air intake on your vehicle? They improve air flow into the intake but may increase intake noise.

Where is the IAT sensor for a 99 5.9 diesel ?

The two-wire Intake Manifold Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is installed in the intake manifold with the sensor element extending into the air stream:
  1. This is a Negative Thermal Coefficient (NTC), meaning that as the manifold air temperature increases, the resistance (voltage) in the sensor decreases, and vice-versa.
  2. The IAT sensor provides an input voltage to the PCM, indicating the density of the air entering the intake manifold based on intake manifold air temperature. When the ignition is turned ON , a 5-volt power circuit is supplied to the sensor from the PCM. The sensor is grounded at the PCM through a low-noise, sensor-return circuit.
  3. The PCM uses this input to determine:
Injector pulse-width (air: fuel ratio) Ignition timing (to prevent spark knock)

I have a 03 1.6 focus.i have a popping sound on tick over and more pronounced if i turn the steering wheel when the engine is idling.ive traced to noise to the air box intake box.i ran the engine with the...

Could this of been caused by the air filter box and cover not being installed correctly or is thee noise still there after you installed it back,? if its still there then something is wrong the poping noise is a small back fire threw the intake, may be a bad coil or crossed sparkplug wire,i would have this checked asap.

My bronco is making a whistling noise i have cold air intake but ive never noticed it before until about a week ago. when i turn off my truck it keeps goin for about a second. What is the problem?

A noise such as that could be caused by a vacuum leak, the cold air intake system (first thing that came to mind), or by an exhaust leak :)

Whistling noise while driving

If it is whistling while you rev your engine (while parked), then most likely there is a leak or hole in your air intake or vacuum hoses.

Facts:
1. Your car creates a vacuum to constantly receive air from the outside.

2. A whistling noise is created when air travels through a hole.

Check all air pressurized ducts for holes or leaks.
Check air intake system for holes or leaks.
