I put in a new speedo cable in my 1976 Moke 999 But it now appears to leak masive amounts of oil. Have I installed it incorrectly . All one needs to do is tighten the screw the nut around speedo

I assume you refer to the Mini Moke?

Had to ask because I don't think they made a 999. An 848, 997 or 998, 1098 or 1275.

Visibility for a speedo cable change isn't very good and lots of people remove the cable complete with the drive to avoid cross-threading the cable nut.

Over the decades the range of Mini Spares and applications have been rationalised so a longer cable isn't surprising - some Minis had a speedo in front of the driver (long cable) and others a central speedo (shorter cable).

I expect you managed to lose the oil seal that just sits on the top of many of the speedo drives and is retained by the speedo cable nut. It has been a long time so only I think that is right...
The alternative is an oil seal fitted to the drive housing.

When the oil seal is absent or has failed there is a leak but I never knew one that leaked massive amounts of oil - often oil would be pushed up the inside of the speedo cable and has known been known to ruin the speedo.

Why do I have massive engine oil loss, with no external leak?

Here is an article explaining a common engine failure with this particular engine: http://apa.ca/readarticle.asp?id=547

Logic would tell you that even though a leak down test was performed, that if you do not have oil in the coolant, or any kind of oil leak, that the oil is going out the tailpipe.....

Dodge durango is going thought alot of oil

it sounds like the valve seals have dried out and need replacing.sitting for 5 years and not really being driven they have probably dried out.a common indication of this is when you start the car after sitting for a while you get smoke out the exhaust and don`t see the smoke when you are driving even though its burning oil just at a smaller amount.the vacume of the cylinder on the power stroke is enough that if the valve seal is bad enough oil will be sucked past the seal and valve guide into the combustion chamber and pools a little on top of the piston.then on start up the oil burns off the piston and out the exhaust,as well as while driving each cylinder that a seal is bad the engine vacume draws oil the same way and its burnt, thus you won`t necessarily see the burnt oil coming out the exhaust.you won`t hear any noise from the motor.knowing you have this problem check the oil regularly until its fixed.also check for any other oil leaks from gaskets as sitting will dry out gaskets and you may see some gaskets that may need to be changed.

I recently replaced my front abs sensors. The front right seal is leaking out the hub oil. I have bought genuine original seals, but the hole they go into is too tight, I have bent 3 trying to get them in,...

Yep. The manual always says replace seals, gaskets, etc but heck sometimes it does not need to be done and only creates problems. I took mine out and cleaned them up or sanded the insert trying to get the abs light off but I did not replace the seals and the sensors went back in without a problem. I would go to http://www.lrrforums.com/index.php?s=2520478ada19011f439696be3e4e31d3 and as some experts on this. They are good people and willing to help, besides it is free advice same as here.

Lekage of oil from timing belt side/from crank seal

Usually the 8th vin number is the year, so "3" means 1993. Your Accord is a 1993. You need to request the front main oil seals for your 1993 Accord. they will request the engine size example 2.2 L.
Goodluck.

2000 Neon with small amount of oil leaking when parked. No oil leaking when put up on rack. Drives car around town seems fine, Drive car for a longer trip and no oil shows up on dipstick. Oil is added and...

When u run your car for a long of time make sure the oil drops down to the oil pan with engine off for about 10 minutes then check oil. If you stop and then immediately u check the oil, oil level will show low, because some oil is at the cylinder head. I think the oil seals for the crankshaft are worn, their one infront of the engine and one behind, where the motor is connected to the transmission. When the head gasket is not good you see oil in the the coolant or coolant in oil and white smoke comes out and car doesn't have enough power, because there is not good compression

Our 2001 Dodge Caravan seems to be leaking oil around drive shaft

Yes it's a bad seal and most likely the side bearing to the trans axle is bad too. Once the bearing has play, it vibrates and causes the oil to leak though the seal. Note: if one side went bad the other side is soon to follow since they have the same amount of miles on them. Might as well change both side. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep an eye on the transmission fluid level, don't want to burn out the transmission.
