SOURCE: idling issue

First check to make sure that gas is good and that filters are not plugged. (I had this problem w/ my truck and it was "crumb" in the line that clogged before filter) Also check any vacume lines. It sounds like a pressure problem and may be a pressure regulator.(may be electrical or mechnical or vacume) I am not too hip on FI but on this forum there are several people try to contact Wrider or Sev, but check the simple stuff first.

SOURCE: Difficulty filling gas tank '06 Silverado 2500 HD 6.0 4x4 w/125K

Well come to the GM World. The filler tube to the gas tank is small and i find it to be the same on my Jimmy and my wife's Montana.
When filling, try starting off slow. Then gradually pull on the trigger more, as you fill the tank with gas. The fluid going in back's up with the air coming out. When you start off slow then pull on the trigger more you give the gas going in and air coming out time to create a path through that they can don't really interfere much with one another.
After a while you'll find a certain way (eather tilted to the left or right) to place the Gas pump nozzle in the filler tube to keep it from cutting off on you.
Good luck and hope this helps. If there is anything wrong with the EVAP. Charcoal canister, vacuum tubes or valve, your Service Engine light would go on. The ECM monitors all of that and would save a DTC in the ECM's memory to be retrieved by a technition's scanner.

First GUESS.. replace the charcoal canister after you have cleaned out the hoses between it and the canister. Then blow air between the purge control solenoid valve and the fuel tank.

Where is purge evac solenoid on 08 kia sportage

In the 2008 Kia Sportage, the purge evacuation (EVAP) solenoid is typically located near the charcoal canister. The exact location may vary slightly depending on the specific engine configuration and optional equipment, but here is a general guideline:
  1. Locate the Charcoal Canister: The charcoal canister is a component of the EVAP system and is responsible for storing fuel vapors. It is usually located in the rear of the vehicle, near the fuel tank or in the engine compartment. The canister is a cylindrical or rectangular-shaped container.
  2. Find the EVAP Solenoid: Once you have located the charcoal canister, look for a smaller component connected to it. This component is the purge evacuation (EVAP) solenoid. It is typically a small plastic or metal device with electrical connectors and vacuum hoses.
  3. Follow the Hoses and Wires: Trace the vacuum hoses and electrical wires connected to the charcoal canister to locate the EVAP solenoid. The solenoid may be connected directly to the canister or positioned nearby.
Please note that the exact location of the EVAP solenoid may vary slightly depending on the specific engine and emission system layout of your 2008 Kia Sportage. Consulting the vehicle's service manual or contacting a Kia dealership may provide more accurate and detailed information tailored to your specific model.
It's important to exercise caution when working with the EVAP system and its components, as they are part of the vehicle's emission control system. If you are unsure or uncomfortable performing the task yourself, it's recommended to seek assistance from a qualified technician or a reputable automotive service center. They have the expertise and tools to locate and service the EVAP solenoid properly.

I went to an auto parts store 'cause my check engine light and vsc light came on, on my 2006 Toyota Avalon-Touring. I bought a new gas cap a couple days ago. The light is still on.

You may have a loose hose in the evap system.
see the diagram below. The evap purge valve is on top of the engine as indicated. There should be a small diameter hose connected there. That hose runs under the car all the way to the charcoal canister, which is on top of the fuel tank. Check the hose for damage. If you can, check to see if it is connected to the canister and check the canister for damage as well.

2004 kia optima has a code P0442 can this be fix

Hi, your car uses an electric pump to pressurize the evaporative emission control system. The pump is activated periodically and the pressure monitored to detect a leak. The computer has recorded a significant pressure loss during such a test and has thus logged the DTC P0442. The leak is small and may require a careful examination of the entire evap system. Check the easy things first, like the gas cap. Did you accidentally leave the cap off with the car running or might it have been loose? If yes, make sure the cap is tight and drive the car a few days to see if the engine light will extinguish on its own. If it does not, the next thing I would check is the purge valve. The purge valve is in the back of the engine compartment, probably attached to the firewall. It has a 2-wire electrical connector on it as well as 2 vacuum hoses. It looks like the picture below. One of the hoses goes to the engine intake manifold and the other goes under the car towards the fuel tank. Check that hose for a tight connection to the purge valve and for any cracking or damage. Pull it off the purge valve and check inside for any bits of charcoal that may have escaped frpom the vapor canister and made it to the valve. Any charcoal bit may jam the valve open. If there are charcoal bits, clean out the valve as well as the entire hose and replace the canister. If no charcoal, trace the hose under the car. There may be a "tee" somewhere that connects that line to the pump. You may also see the pressure sensor along the line. The line should terminate at the charcoal canister by the fuel tank. There may be 3 other hoses connected to the canister. One of these might actually go to the pump, but one will go to the tank. One might go to a vent valve. Wherever they go, check them carefully for brittleness or looseness. Also inspect the canister carefully for any cracks. If you cannot find any damage to the system, go ahead and replace your gas cap. Let me know if you do all this and nothing works.

Service engine soon light came on, replaced gas cap it went off but a week later it came back on, when it try to fuel the truck it spill the gas back out like it is a full tank

One of the most common causes, is blockage in the venting system from fuel entering the vent lines and into the charcoal canister, the fuel gets absorbed by the charcoal canister causing it to swell and block vent lines. the gas tank contains both fuel and air. when you fill it up the gas displaces the air and the air has to go somewhere. but the air that is displaced is full of gas vapor so the gas vapor goes to the vent lines and into the charcoal canister, when the charcoal canister swells up it prevents the air from escaping the tank, canister could be clogged, canister filter may need replacement, electrical connection to the close valve may be open, canisterf might be damaged, purge valve from canister might be clogged, vent hoses might be clogged, the vent hose could be clogged, or the vent hose may have a kink. all this is caused by overfilling the gas tank, getting that last drop of gas in the neck of the fill tube.
good luck!

Gas pump keeps tripping off often

you have a bad charcoal canister. Go underneath the left rear of the car, pull the big hose off the charcoal canister, and if charcoal come out of the hose, replace the canister. This is a common problem w/Hyundai and Kia.

Code 1457

P1457 is the EVAP canister system, including the popular vent-shut valve underneath the left-rear seat. Check out this thread, I put something towards the bottom.

P1457 won't make the car run bad at all. It just means the EVAP canister & the related system of hoses & valves isn't airtight.

Check this stuff in this order. As soon as you find something that doesn't behave like it should, fix or replace it. Then hope it was the only thing wrong with the system...

Some background for the electrical troubleshooting:
All the solenoid valves have constant +12v supply from the main relay. When the ECM wants to energize a valve, it closes the ground side of it's circuit. If the +12v supply is broken, then the ECM can't energize the valve. If the wire to the ECM is shorted to ground, then the valve is energized even when the ECM doesn't want it to be.

EVAP Purge Control valve - between intake manifold & valve cover.
Valve should be normally closed, so it will hold vacuum when it's not energized. Ground is supplied by pin A6 of the ECM to open the valve. So jumper pin A6 to ground, turn on the ignition, and check again - this time it should NOT hold vacuum.

EVAP 2-way valve - underneath the car roughly under the left-rear seat.
It's a little can with 3 hose barbs & a solenoid valve attached to it. Leave the connection on top, disconnect both on the side, attach MityVac to lower one. Normally open, when the solenoid valve is energized, it should hold vacuum.

EVAP Vent Shut valve - attached to the charcoal canister underneath the car.
Normaly open - when ECM closes pin A4 to ground, it should hold vacuum.

EVAP Charcoal Canister - the big can under the car, about under the left-rear seat.
Leak test: Connect all the hoses together, plug the Vent Shut valve, connect the MityVac. Pump vacuum while watching the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor. You can read FTP sensor voltage with a scan tool, or use a voltmeter between pins A29 & C18 at the ECM. Pump down to 1.5v & it should hold that vacuum for at least 20 seconds.

EVAP 2-way valve vacuum & pressure test.
If you get this far you'll want the manual for a good picture of how to connect the hoses. Keep pumping the vacuum pump & it should stabilize between 6 & 16 mm Hg of vacuum. Then pump pressure, it should stabilize at 8 mm Hg or more of pressure.

Then there's a test of the ORVR Vent Shut valve, which is located on top of the gas tank. You check vacuum & pressure at a couple hoses alongside the fuel filler pipe. If the valve is bad you drop the gas tank to replace it...

BMW 325i 1993 has broken connections on cylindrical thing under mass air flow sensor with blue tube connection that runs next to the fuel lines uner the car. What is it?

This is the Charcoal Canister. It is a part of the fuel tank vent system. If you have broken nipples, where the hoses connect, you will have vacuum leaks between the intake manifold and the fuel vent system which will affect the way the engine runs. You should replace the canister.

You can purchase a new canister at Bavarian Autosport. See the link below.
