The service engine light you refer to is telling you you have a problem with the computerrized engine control of the car. When the light comes the computer stores a numerical code that can be retrieved with a scan tool or code reader. If you are not experienced with diagnostics you need to take the car to a mechanic, because sometimes a code can fool you and you can change a good part.An example of this would be reading a code that the oxygen sensor is reading a lean condition setting the light on. but the real issue is a bad fuel pump not supplying enough fuel to the engine. On the code alone you would be inclined to change the sensor when it was not the problem.

The service engine soon light indicates you have a problem with the engine management system. The only way to get it to stay off is to lacate and repair whatever is not working correctly. Requires very specialized equipment. Take it to your mechanic.

I like to do my own maintenance however my "engine service soon" light comes on and I cannot figure out how to turn it off. All the vehicle I have owned in the past had reset switches, or methods to turn the light off. The Nissan company seems determined to prevent owners from doing that so that they will be forced into an expensive dealer service.
Does anyone know how to turn the damn light off?
Thanks.
