What have any mechanics done?
Do you have an aftermarket alarm? If so, does it disable the ignition? I have seen many, Many, aftermarket alarms go bad and give an intermitent problem.
Has anyone replaced or tested an ignition module? Auto zones can test modules for free.

Instead of leaving a one thumbs up you could have used that time to answer my questions. Without all the facts a person cannot properly diagnose and all you can get is guess work. That usually ends up in parts that are not needed being thrown at the car. I don't want that.

What causes engine to cut out?

Maybe your coil pack. It can overheat and short out. Then it cools down and will work for a while till hot again.Could also be spark plugs and wires.

1999 Chevrolet C3500 usually starts with first turn of key but then sometimes it will just crank and crank and not start. Can try it again later and it will start right up.

When it fails to start, you or someone will need to check for fuel pressure and spark at the plugs. You may have to check it more than once to cut down on the possible causes.

The engine cut out then right away was running again then 20-30 seconds later completly cut out again. After a few minutes it started again and ran for another two days. Then it cut out again, ran for...

- When was the last time this car had a tune-up? Could be as simple as that. New spark plugs/rotor/distributor cap/condenser might do the trick.

Other causes could be:
- bad fuel pump relay (definitely first on the list of things to check, and cheapest to fix)
- clogged/old fuel filter
- bad fuel pump

Car cuts out and stumbles. does not start from warm

Hi,

yes they are linked together I had the same problem and the solution is your coil pack needs replacing there for there is no spark for the spark plugs to the engine thats why the rev counter is moving it the engine cutting out really quickly.

There not expensive I got 1 from a scrap dealer for 20 euro and really easy to install its just 2 bolts and a connection.

The smell off fuel is from when your trying to start it back up the fuel is being pumped into the engine and not being burned

Check engine light comes on when car is warm.

could be the crank sensor breaking down when hot which will cause you to lose spark, get it hot and see if have a spark from plug lead after it does cut out and this will verify it.
