SOURCE: wont accelarate

you didnt say if the bike sat up for a while, if it has you have stopped up carbs the bike will run with the choke on but shut off when the choke is off says no fuel going thru the low speed jets clean them by taking the float bowls off and blowing them out with high pressure air

SOURCE: will only run with full choke and absolutely no throttle.

Carbs gummed up. Need a serious cleaning or a full ruubers replacement/rebuild kit. Gas turns to gummy when left stting in the fuel bowls.

Use a couple of cans of Sea Foam.. best stuff in the world.

SOURCE: hi, I have a H plate GT 550 the bike will tick

hello m8,,u have blocked main jets and idle jets, to do this u need to remove the carbs ,,turn them upside down, and remove the casing one at a time, take out the float, becarful not to damage the shut off needle thats attached to it,, unscrew the brass lookin screw which is the jet that the needle sits in,, and will have a number stamped on it, ie jet size, take a 8mm spanner and undo the stem that the jet has come out from and poke a needle or pin in all the little holes, hold it up to the light and u should see daylight threw the holes,, clean out any brown ,rusty lookin deposits from the float bowl casings to,,,,then put back together, repeat the same to the other 3 carbs,, and put back on bike,,this will solve it,,any probs come back and ill tell yuh,, cheers

SOURCE: bike bogs for second then revs when throttling

Pull the slide out of the carb then remove the jet needle and move the clip one notch lower on the needle.

SOURCE: 2000 yzf R6 inconsistant idle under choke cuts out when punched

Yes. Sounds like main jets are blocked. Gas will start to varnish after a couple of months. This builds up over time and sticks the main jets. Go to this website and select discuss this bike.http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/yamaha_yzf-r6_2000.php

2001 r6 keeps pushing all the water out of the expansion tank and when hot does not want to run

Possibly has air in the coolant system causing the coolant to boil. You can flush the whole thing if your coolant is in need, but mainly open the radiator cap and shake all hoses to release air while adding more coolant. Also may be the radiator cap spring (maybe). I am not sure about why it will not start up... maybe a sensor will not allow it.

* I am not certified in anyway and have minimal knowledge, my 05 r6 had air in the coolant and would boil out of the overflow. Make sure you use distilled water to avoid corrosion.

these bikes have a lot of carb issues suggest replacing the jets and taking it somewhere to get a new tune, try ivans jet kit . you are still having carb issues it seems like also make sure your whole charging system is working correctly, i.e. rectifier, stator fuses simple things like your oil level can also effect performance

R6 hesitation when starting out

Not often i see good questions like this. I would start with riching the carbs a bit. Another possible simple solution is to get your plugs check to make sure they are firing at full capacity, either one can cause the problems you have described. My first guess though would be the carbs, it sounds like the throttle is set a bit off to what it should be at. The fact that your bike runs fine otherwise also suggests this conclusion.
