Does this model have a switch on the side stand. If so it could be faulty and fooling the bike into thinking the side stand is down and stalling it for safety.

This problem should be re-tagged gv650.

It's not your clutch, it's the kickstand killswitch. I had the same issue.

If you look down next to your kickstand on the left hand side you'll see a silver switch (looks like a mushroom), follow the cables up to the front end of the chasis near the sump and you'll find a black connector with two wires coming out of it. You can either bypass the connector using a piece of wire or just do what I did and clip the wires, wind them together and crimp them in a connector.

Start your bike and hey presto - problem solved.

Hope this helps.

My 2004 1500 Vulcan Nomad will not stay in gear 2nd thru 4th gears? It started off as a momentary thing where when I went from 1st to 2nd it would go into a false neutral. now it won't stay in gear at all...

Always start with the easy (read cheap) stuff first. Make sure that the clutch is fully disengaging when in gear and engine running. If bike 'clunks' and lurches forward as soon as you shift into any gear, it may simply be that your clutch needs to be bled and/or adjusted so that you are fully engaging/disengaging the gear. More likely, however, the shift lever was subjected to a heavy foot resulting in the shift fork being bent. This prevents full engagement of the gear resulting in it popping out under load. Unfortunately, this repair requires a teardown. Continued operation with the tranny popping out of gear will round off the shift dogs and create an even more very expensive repair.

Clutch does not engage well, especially when cold. First shift into gear will always stall motor.

to me this seems a case of many things not 100% set up properly.

big singles do burn a lot of oil, so either its low or just the wrong viscosity, check with a KTM forum as a lot of users will have already had this problem and rectified it.

but the first thing i'd check first is: Idle speed (if its FI then shouldnt be a problem) valve clearances and it also depends on whether you have any mods?

a race spec pipe will always cause issues starting cold.

Clutch engaged engine stalls 2003 Suzuki GSX-R 1000

The bike has a sidestand interlock that prevents you from riding away with the kickstand down. That interlock is not functioning properly. Could have been bent or moved, unplugged, or perhaps the relay has failed. If physically activating the switch does not work, and connecting the wires with a jumper does not work start looking at the turn signal relay, some bikes have that circuit integrated into the relay.
