1996 ford ranger which is not driven regularly had to go about 40 miles on highway.Did not have to shift for about 35 miles when I was exiting the clutch felt like it was frozen I coasted to a stop.I could not shift.after sitting a few minutes my son started pumping the clutch and it was working.It worked fine until i made the 35 mile highway drive back and again it froze up when I was exiting.I started pumping it and it started working ,but at every trafic light it would freeze up and ild have to pump it.Later after the truck was sitting for a few hours I drove it locally about 4 miles and had no problem .anyone have an idea whats wrong?

If the truck has been sitting, I would be looking into the bell housing for mouse nest. Chipmunks and mice love to make nests in there. Nut shells and other debris will interfer when clutch pedal is depressed. All that **** falls in between the pressure plate and slave cylinder. It's hard to clean out without removing transmission. Good Luck

Not sure what you have determined the truck is doing

If the rpm flairs the trans is slipping & done

If it won't go over 40 mph the exhaust converter is damaged
& blocked

Not much you can do,need professional help

P1000 code on my ford f350 I've driven it 4 times
It depends on how you drive the truck. The computer has lost its memory, usually from disconnecting the battery. Once that happens, the truck has to be driven in various conditions before the memory is relearned.
In most cases, you have to do some highway and city driving AFTER the engine is up to normal temp. Usually 40 or 50 miles of each is enough. And not all in the same trip either.

OVERDRIVE is fine in most driving. if you tow a trailler or pulling long hills take out of overdrive. otherwise the vehicle will handle when to shift.

My 2003 Chevy 1500 will not shift past 2nd gear; can't drive on the highway. top speed 35-40 mph. The truck has 96,000 miles on it.
Any service engine light? May be a bad shift solenoid which are located inside the transmission pan.

If tranny is manual shift you may have a bearing and or bad gear. Try changing tranny fluid. Check manual for correct fluid may use tranny fluid rather than gear oil. I recommend using Royal Purple fluid or gear oil. This very expensive but will slicken up the shifting and extend bearing and gear life.

Could be a handful of possibilities: When was last service - tune up and filters changed? Sluggish on highway suggests possible fuel filter. For the record filters, plugs etc should be changed every 30k. From what you're telling us, you've been running on borrowed time.

sorry these are famous in the feature you have only if you change the filter and fluid regular as recommended as suggested from factory for some reason that reverse band is famous in older models it could be adjusted! I know some of fords other models have a digital transmission!!! oh dear to those to!!!good luck hope this helped you

I say air by o2 sensor or if you have done that already tried the vaccum hoses for tiny tiny holes
