There are many was a head gasket can blow . sometimes they just leak to the outside sometimes they leak to the coolant and then it blows out your antifreeze. if you have a blown head gasket you will see it when you pull the head. and yes you should hace the head checked at a machine shop and install with a new head set never reuse a gasket .

SOURCE: Does anyone know if the steel seal works for blown

I used steel seal on a 93 Mazda pickup, it had 130,000 miles and it smoked like a steam engine out the tailpipe, I used the product and now have 189,000 miles and still running great.

Is there a sealant for a blown head gasket or cracked head?

Hey Michael,
How/why do you think you have a blown gasket/cracked head??
....If you have a blown head gasket/cracked head you need to get it fixed ASAP.. Check your oil for cross contamination...( a light cream colored oil indicates water/antifreeze mixed with the oil).this WILL cause major damage if you continue to run the engine..(WATER is NOT a good engine lubricant!!!!) There are several "sealants" or radiator stop leak products... BUT ..cleaning these out of a coolant system is a NOT FUN!!.. Sorry.. trying to "patch" this will lead to more $$$$$ down the road!!

Has anyone used liquid steel for a blown head gasket and what were your results ?

As a really TEMPORARY fix you could try using aluminum radiator seal, but the only long term fix is to pull the head and replace the gasket.

How long does it takes to repair blown head gasket with "STEEL SEAL"?

Probably never.

I can't say the magic pellet short cuts never work, but they likely only work for little leaks - sounds like you have a doozy and there will likely be no option but to remove the head and replace the gasket.

2001 jetta blown Head gasket what can I do

Blown head gasket is a big job, I have had great success using some of the head gasket sealers, These products are not 100 percent for sure fix but work most of the time if the directions are followed correctly. Bars liquid glass has fixed the head gaskets in two cars ive owned when it works, it a permenant seal. Follow directions, and its best to remove the thermostate when using head gasket sealers.

I have a 97 LHS and the heads gaskets, possibly the heads, i was wondering if i should use the product call

Liquid Steel, Steel Seal, Duralast-all make a product with sodium silicate that is supposed to seal head gasket leaks. Some swear by it, most mechanics say it is a temporary fix or doesn't even work. It is about $90 per application, but check, I think the cost is refunded if it doesn't work. Some people have even bought sodium silicate (liquid glass) at a pharmacy for a few bucks and claim it works. IDK, it might be worth a try, if you just don't want to replace the gaskets. Google it, it's everywhere, even some testimonials on Youtube. Let us know if it works for you.
Good luck.

I have the starting of a blown head gasket on a 2000 dodge intrepid. I was wondering does the steel seal stuff that is advertised really work? would really like to know before spending my hard earned...

It all depends on where the leak is and how bad. It could work but it also could not. Either way this would be almost a 100% temporary fix. I would either get it fixed right away or trade/sell the car. A head gasket replacement as long as the heads are good would run 800-1000$ at a reputable shop.'
Thank you,

I guess i have a broken head gasket, do you recomend a product called Steel Seal?

http://www.diyforums.net/anyone-tried-steel-seal-for-blown-head-gaskets-285608.html

you can try it, but read this stuff first. I'd recommend replacing it, but if you haven't the time or money, . . .it sounds like that a lot of people have had success with it. But you can't go wrong with a new gasket Fel-Pro permatorque gaskets are what I use.

Does head gasket make car over heat and does the blown headgasket seal will fix problem

head gasket problems can cause leakage of antifreeze into the exhaust through the cylinders and low antifreeze levels can cause an overheat problem due to a leaky head gasket.

A leaky water pump can do the same thing except you'll see a puddle of antifreeze from the o-ring not sealing right.

Blown head gasket seal can help with minor defects in the head gasket seal but not major leaks.

It may be worth the cost to try a head gasket seal solution before replacing the head gasket which is a major procedure.
