Heard there was a callback on many of the klr models. Problems like wireing and cables often for the lights can be fixed or changed at a local dealership for free. The problems was "solved" in later batches from the factory, thus only selected bikes with a certain serial number qualify for the free of charge fix.

2003 KLR 650 won't start.

The clutch also must be engaged there is a safety interlock on the kickstand and on the clutch handle.
Also the kill switch by the throttle (red rotating switch) must be on run it also prevents the starter from working.

The usual point of failure is the interlocks, you can unplug the connector from the interlock switches and jump them to test if they are working.
the clutch switch is by the pivot end of the clutch handle.
The kickstand switch is under a plastic cover about halfway up the frame, there is a cable like a bicycle brake or shift cable that runs from the kickstand to the switch under the cover.
I have a wiring diagram for this bike, if you still have problems let me know and we can run thru troubleshooting procedures.

My 2005 KLR 650 is overheating but I'm not sure of the cause. The metal box under the seat is incredibly hot but I don't know its purpose so I was hoping you can give me some ideas

hiya

This is normal, my 87' would do the same thing. There are two mod's all KLR owners should do...
1. Install an overide switch for the fan, mine is a three way auto.off.on
2. Cut off switch for the lights.(Great for crawling around off road)
The overide switch for the fan helps keep the temp down below the red. Now, I have never sat in a traffic jam on a 100 day, but it has helped with everything else thusfar

hope this helps

My turn signals do not work and tail light samething fuse ok 2006 klr 650

start with your tail light, luck its a simple wire harness, with a test light start at the tail light and check for power if you have power you bulb is no good if you dont keep following the wire back checking for power along the way. youll run into your problem just take you time. as for you turn signals for the most part the same thing, but start at you handle bar switch. good luck

I have a 2006 klr 650 with 2450mile on it. Today I went to start the bike and nothing. At first the head light came on, then i pushed the starter button and everything went off. I check the battery and it...

The battery is dead. I suggest an AGM battery from bikebatts.com. The dual sport bikes especially can use those because they don't leak when you fall over in the dirt.

By the way there are some good dual sport sites like advrider and thumpertalk, and some good klr forums out there too.

Kawasaki klr 650 stalles when put in gear with clutch engaged

Sidestand must be retracted and sidestand switch functioning or the engine dies as a safety feature to keep you from riding off with the sidestand down. If the sidestand is up and it still dies, disconnect the sidestand switch and put a jumper in there. If the problem goes away, your switch is faulty.
