Think i have a short

I think I have a short somewhere. I have a 1996 Chevy k1500 4.3 vortex manual transmission. I was pulling out of my yard the other day and the truck just died. When I turned the key off it started buzzing at me like the key was in the ignition and the lights were left on. When I turn the key on, nothing. I got my father-in-laws computer diagnostic tool and hooked it up. It said to turn the ignition off. Then to turn it back on and push enter. When I turn the ignition on the diagnostic tool goes blank and then resets. Please help. I'm broke and need to fix this as cheaply and as quickly as possible. Where do I start?

I can say yes right now, but maybe it wasn't actually all the way turned off before.

It stopped running the day before yesterday. I turned it to the off position several times then and the buzzing just would not stop. I went to work and ignored it for a day.

When I went out earlier it was still buzzing like the key was in the ignition. I put the key in to run the test and turned it to the on position. It stopped buzzing and the tool failed. I turned it back to the off position and pushed a little harder like I was going to put it in the accesory position and it stopped buzzing.

It does spring back when I attempt to start it. I'm wondering if it would normally start now if the battery wasn't so dead from two days of running the buzzer, but I don't want to try it if I'm going to hurt something.

Why does the ecm transmission fuse keep blowing in a 2010 Chevy Cobalt?

You more than likely have a shorted wiring harness somewhere in the wiring to the transmission shift solenoids, this is a problem that is difficult for a professional to track down. Pull the harness loose and look at it, examine for wires rubbed through. You can try unplugging the harness from the transmission and see if the short goes away, if it does the shift solenoids are the problem.

Does 1996 jeep Cherokee have switches or sensors on transmission to affect motor performance

The short answer is yes but it would take a little diagnosis to find out if a transmission could cause the exact problem you are having or if the problem is somewhere other than the trans. If you could describe your issue in detail and possibly why you think it is a trans issue I am sure someone would be able to help you more.

I have a 1991 chevy s-10 blazer 4.3 l engine not vortex. The fuel line is cracked can I buy the fuel line at a parts store or Do I have to go to the dealer to get it.

you can buy the fuel line at any parts store and make up the exact size that you need, ( you do not need to get it through the dealer ). or if you want the exact fit, length and size you can always go to your local chevrolet wrecking yard and pull the lines off of a wrecked S-10.

1996 chevy s10 4.3 vortex lifters knocking at start up but goes away after 10 minutes idling. changed oil and filter oil pump reads 58-60psi at idle and seems to be working.

High milage? Try engine cleaner, run for couple hundred miles and then use an additive like Restore. If it's just dirt this may help. Make sure you are using the correct viscosity oil for winter temps. If it's from wear only parts replacement will fix it.

97 Chevy Suburban - Should I replace my transmission?

You are your own best judge on that, i got a 95 silverado with 160,000 mi. and would not think twice about driving and pulling anything across the country, but one thing i would recamend (if it dosent have one already) is an external trans. cooler.

Manual transmission

It sure sounds like a clutch problem, You describe needing more RPM's which indcates a slipping clutch. If the shifter goes into each gear but the car doesn't move your clutch is gone or the linkage is stuck or inoperative. hope this helps, Chuck
