When hooking up both battery post the starter turns over without turning over the ignition switch

Look for the post that has the IGN marks by it then run a jumper to the hot post for the battery. You should see your gauges come on when you have done it right. Well, if your starter starts to turn when you hook the battery cable up, then you have hooked the cable to the wrong post on the starter. You have two large posts and one small post on the starter solenoid, the battery cable goes on the large post that has nothing else hooked to it. The other large post should have a large braided cable going into the starter motor housing. NOW TAKE REMOTE SWITCH HOOK RED WIRE TO STARTER SOLENOID POSITIVE POST THEN HOOK BLACK WIRE TO REMOTE SWITCH TO STARTER SOLENOID SWITCH TERMINAL WITH LETTER S THEN PRESS REMOTE IF STARTER SPINS STRONG WITH A GOOD KICK STARTER GOOD.YOUR PROBLEM COULD BE CORRODED WORN BATTERY CABLES. Because the ignition switch wire (small purple wire) or connector is touching the hot post on the starter.So when you connect the battery it just like turning the ignition key to start the engine. Make sure all the wires on the starter are not touching each other.

does it spin real fast without clanging and grinding against the flywheel? if so then its probably the solenoid bad. do you have to hit the starter with a hammer then it works? it is probably bad brushes or a worn motor. eather way i think you can only get a new starter and solenoid together not sold seperate. check for bad battery cables (loose).

THE PROBLEMS IN YOUR CAR COULD BE A BAD KEY TRY ANOTHER KEY YOUR CAR HAS THE THEFT DETERRENT MODULE SYSTEM BEST TO HAVE CAR SCAN TO CHECK THE THEFT SECURITY MODULE AND THE TRANSMISSION NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH IF ITS BAD STARTER WONT WORK.ALSO CHECK THE THEFT DETERRENT MODULE RELAY. BEFORE REMOVING BATTERY CABLES TURN OFF RADIO SO YOU WONT LOSE YOUR RADIO PLAYING CODE.

sounds like you are hooking up the starter wrong. the positive goes to the starter main terminal from the battery. the ignition wire goes to the s on the solenoid, which activates 12 volts when the ignition switch is turned on which causes a magnetic field
inside the solenoid and joins the connectors
in the solenoid to the main positive wire from the
battery to the main starter unit brushes/armature inside the starter unit. If you have a constant
12 volts from the ignition wire it will keep the solenoid engaged. If you put the main positive wire on the wrong solenoid terminal it will immediately engage the starter. try putting the main battery wire to the correct terminal or perhaps check the ignition wire for a short or constant voltage to the solenoid.

It should be in the harness with the others that go to the starter, its a small wire that comes from the ignition switch it hooks to the small post next to the main post on the starter selonoid thats what kicks the selonoid in witch in turn, turns the starter.

The Starter relay is bad.

the wires might be fried also, check them with a meter to see if the smaller wire has voltage without key in. if so, the wire might be shorting out to 12 volt wire or the ignition switch is bad.
