What should it cost to replace a fan clutch?

You can look the price of the part up on the auto parts websites, and you'll need to check with a local mechanic for the labor.

My 2000 hyundai elantra is automatic it has a code p0734. which the mechanic explained me that i have to get the speen sensor replace and get new clutch because the 4 gear ratio is bad. pls advice what 2...

P0734=A/T 4th gear incorrect ratio. This has nothing to do with the speed sensor. If the speed sensor was faulty, it would also set OTHER gear incorrect ratio codes. My experience tells me the 4th gear incorrect ration indicates the torque converter clutch (TCC) is slipping and nothing more. Unless there was a speed sensor DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code), the sensor is not the issue (yet). The fact P0734 was set (trust the computer), the TCC is slipping (out of range). Question: Maintenance history may indicate the wrong transmission fluid may have been introduced. Hyundai's Transmission fluid is strictly SPIII... there is no substitute. The incorrect fluid will cause 4th gear slippage. Now, having said that, it doesn't mean the 4th gear (lock-up) clutch isn't worn out. Have a qualified/certified Hyundai Service Technician properly diagnose this issue.

I have a 2001 Elantra GT. with the auto trans in drive the trans slips when I'm doing 50-65 mph and the trans is in 4th gear if i have my foot to heavy on the gas. it doesn't do it as bad if I have...

First of all, Hyundai Transmissions use a 'specific' fluid called 'SPIII' and ONLY SPIII. Any other fluid doesn't meet Hyundai's specification and can cause 4th gear slippage (which is the TTC - Torque Converter Clutch - frequently referred to as the "lock-up" converter). You should have had a Check Engine Light. The problem you describe regarding 'doesn't drop back to first when I'm at a stop' sounds like the transmission has gone into 'Fail-Safe' mode because of the 4th gear ration incorrect. In "Fail-Safe" mode, the trans stays in 3rd gear until you cycle the ignition key off, and then back on. You need to scan your engine's computer to see what/which trouble codes have been set/stored in it. You'll need an OBDII scanner to read any codes that might be there. When a 'check engine light' (MIL=Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is turned on, there is a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) set/stored in the ECM/PCM (Engine Control Module/Powertrain Control Module). This code identifies which engine management system component/function experienced a malfunction. Once you pull/read this/these code(s), you can begin diagnosis.

This code identifies which engine management system component/function experienced a malfunction. Once you pull/read this code, you may begin diagnosis.

Since the 'Check Engine' light flashed, and there were no codes stored (at least this is what the technician told you), there is definitely something happening with the engine computer. There is ALWAYS a code stored when the Check Engine light comes on - even if it's a 'History' code (unless there's a problem with the computer).

Have a qualified/certified Hyundai Service Technician properly diagnose this issue.

Trans drops into 3rd gear won,t shift to 4th

DTC P0734 is "4th gear incorrect ratio" - that's your torque converter 'LOCK UP Clutch" It's worn out (or you're using the wrong Trans Fluid required by Hyundai - SPIII OR Both). The P1624 is simply the Trans Control Unit (computer) communicating to the Engine Control Module (ECM computer) MIL - on request signal to ECM = asking it to turn on "Check Engine" light. MIL = Malfunction Indicator Lamp. When the torque converter 'lock up" clutch slips or doesn't engage, the trans automatically returns to 3rd gear and stays there (it's called 'fail safe' mode) until you cycle the ignition key, then everything resets until the malfunction occurs again.
You'll need to have an AT (Automatic Transaxel) tester hooked up to verify this. Hyundai has a Service Bulletin specifically for "gear incorrect ratio' codes. If when you changed the trans fluid, was it done at a Hyundai Service Center? If not, someone may have installed the wrong fluid.

Clutch Sometimes Slipping in 4th and 5th gears!

Hi Jackiaria

Unfortunately you have a hydraulic clutch, which is self adjusting on your car.

The problem you are experiencing is the excessive wear to your clutch, or oil contamination on the clutch plate.

Both these problems can only be fully diagnosed once the gearbox is removed and the clutch is inspected.
There is also a possibility of excessive wear, or scoring, on the flywheel surface, the longer you drive the vehicle with a slipping clutch, possibly requiring the flywheel to be skimmed.

Shop around for a best price, and a trustworthy garage !

Good Luck !

A FixYa rating would be Nice....Thanks.....John.

2000 Hyundai Elantra Transmission problem

I don't know if I can help but as an owner of a Hyundai Elantra 2000 GLS with 205,000 miles and the original clutch and transmission I'll try and help!

I always start with the lowest cost solution first and avoid mechanics as much as possible!

Have you checked the trans fluid?
It should be changed every 30,000 miles!
Sometimes a Lucas Trans Fluid will cure - fix slippage!

Have you checked for a clutch adjustmet!
An adjustment can cure - fix slippage!

Are you a clutch rider with your foot always on the clutch?
If so you may have worn out the clutch!

How many miles to you have on your Hyundai Elantra 2000?
