there is no electricity, i turn the key and nothing lights up and the enginge wont start, before this happened there was nothing wrong with the bike. is there a kill switch on the bike that may have engaged or could a fuse have blew

Are you sure the kill switch next to the start button did not get bumped at the bump?

I'd check the battery first. I've seen the post break loose from the batteries in many Sportsters and leave them dead on the road. I've only seen this happen once on a Big Twin. Why? I have no idea. If nothing on the bike works, this may be the problem. If everything else works but it just won't start, I need more information. Does the starter engage and the engine turn over?

the battery is fully charged, there is no electricity being picked up on the bike, turn key - no lights, horn, and no switches work, and bike wont try to start since it has the electric start button. where are the fuses located and is there a kill switch that may have engaged after i road over the bump

There is an electrical panel on the bike. Like I said, I'm not sure but it's either under the seat or behind the triangular plate on the left side of the bike just under the seat. That's where it was on the 2000 models anyway. There are some fuses and a main fuse or main breaker. I doubt the jar of the bump blew the fuse though. It may have caused something to momentarily short and blow the fuse. If you don't find anything there, your bike may have a "lean angle" switch on it somewhere that may have "made". Those used to be on the backside of the oil tank. They weren't the type of switch that you had to reset or anything but it may have made and that might have blown a fuse. I wished I could be more specific but my experience is limited to the older bikes and anything I'm telling you here is an educated guess at best. I hope it helps.

What distance should the motor last if regular oil and filter changes on the 883 sporster

Well, this is an impossible question to answer. There are simply too many variables that one must consider not to mention the unknowns. I've seen the bikes with as much as 75K miles on the bottom end running well. Top ends need freshening up from time to time. Depending on how a person rides the bike has a lot to do with how often this has to be done.

I got a 1991 hd xlh883 sporster i had the timming repair and set and the carb set and still have no power in 5th gear only what do i need to look for?

If your engine has good compression and the carb and ignition timing is set correctly, you should be alright. The question did the bike have power before you had anything done to it? The 883's of late do not have the power the 883's of years ago had. The EPA is to blame for that. You may want to check the size of your front and rear belt pulleys. Someone may have changed them and put "international gearing" on the bike to keep the revs down at highway speeds. This will make the bike feel extremely sluggish in 5th gear.

Good Luck

My 1999 sporster is leaking gasoline from the escape line when I stood the bike upright and off the kickstand the gas started coming out of the carburetor ...how do I fix

tap on the float bowl with the handle of a screwdriver, there is probably just something small making the float stick a little and always always always turn your fuel valve off when the bike is parked.

unless you have the motor out its near if not impossible to get a torque wrench on the bolts so what most do use blue loctite on your bolts and draw all bolts down evenly till you make metal to metal [cover to rocker] then maybe 1/8 turn more the key is even torque
