There could be an issue with the oil sending unit, spark plug boot or faulty on/off switch. Easy tests. Always use a new plug for testing. Unplug the oil sending unit wire and retest for spark. If spark may need to change the oil or low oil. If still no spark, leave the sending unit wire unplugged and remove the boot from the plug wire. Insert a short piece of paper clip wire into the end of the plug wire and hold near metal of the engine for test. If spark, replace boot. If still no spark, unplug wire from on/off switch and retest. If still no spark suspect faulty coil ~ redo all tests using old coil. If still no joy return new coil for exchange. I use a growler to test coils(growler used for testing armature for short, place one leg of coil on each pad of growler and activate growler for short burst). Good luck.

Won`t start, good gas, has new plug and good spark, new carb, clean air filter, plenty of oil?

check you have good compression. remove plug and cover hole with a bung( cork of rubber) .
there may be some debris keeping the inlet valve open .
try compressed air to blow out cylinder whilst turning engine over(pull the cord).
reinstall plug and it should fire.

Erratic and weak spark

IF that is a small engine and has a magneto. You need to check the gap between the coil and the magnet on the flywheel. The easiest way to judge that gap is with a business card. If it fits between the two parts without effort, then it is too much gap.

Honda gx160 qh26 wont start, backfires thorugh exhst, new plug, re&re carb, valves in. .006 ex. .008 , sos please

The Honda GX160 is a single-cylinder multipurpose engine, so it doesn't have a timing belt, fuel filter, or any other wires other than the single spark plug wire and a ground. I'm having the same trouble with my Honda GX160. Spark is good, compression feels a bit lacking though, I haven't measured it. I've heard that the carburetor might be the cause, either needing to be cleaned or replaced as a whole. Dunking it in CLR works wonders, and if that doesn't work, you could probably find a new carburetor pretty cheaply.

Hi, check the oil level. If low the oil guardian is cutting the spark. Regards Phil.

We have a Honda GX160 powered generator. It just won't start. We have changed the spark plug, air filter, checked the fuel lines and all look ok. We have checked the on/off switch and that is ok too. The...

Sounds like the carburetor is plugged up on this generator since starting fluid starts the engine.
Rebuild the carburetor to get it to start.

Wolf 2300 , no spark, will not start

Magneto behind the fly wheel is the cause of lost spark
If it is a 5.5 or 6.5 Hp engine a Honda magneto off a GX160 will fit, and is far more reliable

Honda 501 no spark, how do i fix?

You need to check the contact, (right next to the magneto:) and then if that fails, check the magneto.
If it's old, or worn, it will not be producing the correct charge.
Then you will have to play with the timing adjustment.
Either on the spark plug, or the contact and magneto gap.
That should do it ;)
Remember to rate, thanks.
