Idle is high at start - 1800 rpm. Seems like excessive white smoke from exhaust. Put into reverse and back out of driveway it has a regular shudder (bump bump bump) but not hard metal grinding sound.. Accel from stop and white puff out exhaust. Once warmed up problem stops and runs fine.Fuel consumptn is a bit high. Once warned up idle is 650 which seems a bit low.

Is the smoke white or black? If it's white head gasket black it oil .

first of all u need to determine what color of smoke it is and is it coming out of the exhaust pipe. black smoke means excessive gas burning ...blue smoke means burning oil ...white smoke if seen in warm weather conditions means coolant leak into cylinder heads... but as running rich and high low idle might have a vacuum leak or carburetor need new base gasket or rebuilt ... good luck

That's the symptom of a leaking head gasket. Is your coolant level low?

Just letting you know that white is water, blue is oil and black is gas coming out of the exhaust.

If you have excessive white smoke coming from the vehicles exhaust, it sounds like your headgasket is failing. Especially having a rough idle too. Check your coolant level, does your exhaust smoke smell sweet, like Antifreeze? If so, the gasket has blown. Hope this helps...

hardly likely the exhaust job would cause that, but yes it sounds like you got a blown head gasket. badl lock stricks hmm! also preasure test cylinder head for leaks
